Nokia's Asha is a "borderline smartphone" platform; such devices are more powerful than the old featurephones, but less powerful and quite cheaper than proper smartphones. It was intended to replace the older Series 40 featurephone platform (confusingly, several early Asha models were in fact Series 40 phones with an Asha skin). The Asha line is popular in certain developing countries like India and Brazil; however, after Microsoft's acquisition of Nokia's phone business, it has been announced that they will discontinue all platforms except Windows Phone.
