Originally a leather and plastics manufacturer, Coleco entered the gaming market with the Telstar, and also had success producing several handhelds and tabletop mini-arcades. The powerful ColecoVision console was a huge seller at first, but the great crash of '83 suddenly got in the way. As the market shifted, they retooled it into the Adam computer; however, crippling design flaws and manufacturing problems made it a major flop. Coleco stayed afloat for a while thanks to their toys, especially the hugely successful "Cabbage Patch Kids" dolls, but as their popularity waned, the company finally went under.
