"The microcomputer that's top of its class."

Commodore's Personal Electronic Transactor, or PET, was part of the famous "1977 trinity" - the first commercially successful personal computers, along with the Apple II and the TRS-80. Its low cost made it a hit at first; but Commodore had production issues and they remained back-ordered for months. It was also a very weak hardware, and the keyboard of the first model was utter garbage.

As the PET's sales declined, Commodore quickly planned a successor, which turned out to be the mediocre VIC-20. After that, they finally redeemed themselves with the Commodore 64.
