BoF2 Fresh Fire Mod Breath of Fire II JAWsome mod that supes the hell out of BoF2's gameplay aspects. Sadly, you're stuck with the GBA translation and aesthetics. However, several items, spells, equipment, and weapons have been modified to be bug-fixed and/or all around better. Most importantly, allies got a serious kick in the ass. Ryu can now use Dragon powers without dropping to 0AP (though their damage formulas are altered to compensate), all allies have altered stats and learn new spells and skills (even Katt!), and the Shaman system allows many new combos and alterations to give more versatility. Oh, but your enemies have also been pumped up to keep things tough. Beat the SNES retranslation, then blaze through with this mod for maximum BoF2 enjoyment. Read up on and get it here. Bof2ffkatt
Donkey Kong Country Palette Restoration Donkey Kong Country Here is a restoration project for the infamous Donkey Kong Country for GBA that replaces the ugly palettes with the SNES originals. Get it here.

FF1+2DoS: Mod of Balance Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls DoS is pretty easy. Step things up a notch with the "Mod of Balance", a ROM patch that boosts the difficulty of both games, but adds numerous additions and alterations to both player (such as equip options and spells) and enemy characters (such as drops and skills) to create a more balanced game. It's pretty hard in the initial areas while getting to grips with the heightened changes, but evens out around mid-game, creating quite an amusing experience. While the FF remakes are available on other platforms, this is the only one the Mod of Balance works on, making this entry somewhat of an oddball. Get the patch and read up on it HERE. Ff1gbamob
FF1: DoS - Vancian Magic System Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls This patch overhauls Final Fantasy I: Dawn of Souls to use a Vancian spellcasting system in place of MP. Many routines and data structures have been modified for this purpose, and several new ones introduced. It functions much like the NES version’s spell charge system but is more flexible.

FF5a Custom Classes Mod Final Fantasy V Advance The original FF5a added lots of cool stuff, but the problem was you couldn't access most of it until post-game! Well, why not get it before then, get the equipment/spells for it, AND be able to use THREE job ability slots at once, along with passive abilities that are ALWAYS active (except Berserk)? Well, that's just what this mod lets you do. This makes the gameplay experience as updated and kick ass as the translation. In addition, some aspects of classes and jobs have been modified to be able to remain useful even later on. Abilities learned and ABP required has been altered for some jobs (such as thief now getting Dual-Wield), but nothing ever comes close to some of the 999ABP bullshit like the original. Get the patch and read up on it here. Lennaff5accm
Final Fantasy (IV/V/VI) (Sound) Restoration Patches Final Fantasy IV/V/VI Advance The "Finest Fantasy for Advance" project accomplished its goals to some extent, but the GBA's limitations, along with lacking programming in some areas held it back somewhat. The sound is one of the biggest bothers to most people but, thankfully, you've been covered to an extent. While a GBA can't quite match an SNES, these patches intend to get the music and sound effects as close as possible, while also adding some extra orchestral segments per game.
There are also a few other issues regarding certain matters in FF4 and FF6, with patches for those as well; however, their collective worth varies on a somewhat subjective level. While FF4a's patch to magic-weapons like defender is kinda handy, you may/may not care for FF6a's Woosley script edits.
Get the sound patches, at least, here: FF4 FF5 FF6 sound FF6 color

Final Fantasy (IV/VI) Uncensored Patches Final Fantasy IV/VI Advance The "Finest Fantasy for Advance" project was also, for some reason, censored. In IV, the stripper graphics are changed to reflect that of the SNES ones where they just dance without taking of their clothes, this censorship wasn't in the Japanese version. Final Fantasy VI Advance. Oh, Final Fantasy VI Advance. Where to begin? The American/European versions censor the sprites of Siren and Chadarnook, and in all versions, they changed Celes from being beat up by the guards to just being insulted and for some reason, Celes lumping to the floor, and to add insult to injury, this was left uncensored in the English version on the SNES. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance: Anarchy Final Fantasy Tactics Advance A patch that removes the inherent laws from the game. This invites you to play however you like the entire game. You can still use Law-cards (when you get them) to dick over your foes and even anti-law cards to cancel those out. Get it here.
Editor note: I have no idea how the Li-Grim's "Lawshift" command works with this.

Sequence Breaking Fusion-3
Metroid - Combat Metroid - Zero Mission Metroid: Combat makes you go through 6 stages, kind of like Contra or Castlevania, each with 1 boss and miniboss. You can take only 3 hits before you die, but that can be increased by finding energy tanks hidden through the stages. Get it here.

Pokemon - Altered Emerald Pokemon -

Emerald Version

What happens when you take (almost) every move and ability from gen 1 to 7, add some new ones to the mix, and then cram them into just 386 Pokémon?

You get a level of meta diversity the main games could only dream of. Over half the abilities are signature abilities, and moves are no different! You can catch all your favorites here, and you'll find them stronger and more defined than ever before.
For a full list of changes check out the hack page here.

Pokemon - Clover Pokemon - FireRed Version Pokémon Clover is a ROM Hack of Pokémon Fire Red featuring the two brand new regions of Fochun and the Ebin Isles, as well as 386 original fakemon!

Started in late 2014 as a janky rehash of Pokémon Fire Red, Pokémon Clover has since evolved into a complete overhaul with all-new characters, story, maps, music and gameplay mechanics.

The main point of Clover is to be both a parody of 4chan’s imageboard culture as well as a parody of Pokémon as a whole. It thus contains themes and language not suited for the faint of heart.

Pokemon - Flora Sky Story Pokemon - Emerald Version Let's get real: Pokemon in /v/ is a pillar on a temple. And hacks are always welcome WHEN THEY ARE GOOD (really, who makes a Pokemon with just one Pokemon to battle and catch?)

Anyway, Flora Sky Story is a superb hack of Emerald Version now with a really nice feeling of "This is a Nintendo hack of their own game or what?" because of the professional production: Capture Pokemon up to 5th generation in a new map (It's the same Hoeen though),a new story with new characters, minigames, daily events and new Legendaries.Graphics are kinda meh,but if you can go past this,it's a really fun game.

The patch is here.

War Room Challenge 2012 - Advance Wars 2 Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising Some Advance Wars fanatics got together and basically made a pretty cool romhack of new maps, new features, and the ability to play as Von Bolt and Caulder in AW2. There's much more to it than just that, obviously, so get the patch and read up on it here, soldier. 909screenshot1
/feg/ romhacks Fire Emblem 6 (The Binding Blade), 7 (The Sword of Flame), 8 (The Sacred Stones) Fire Emblem General or /feg/ for short has a decent collection of Fire Emblem series romhacks. Unfortunately, they can sometimes be kind of hard to find in the open. As such, if you really want them, you should check on the generals threads they have. One of the more interesting ones is "Fire Emblem Girls", which changes The Sacred Stones to an all-female cast, AND changes gameplay aspects as well, making it more than just a mere aesthetic shift. You can read a bit about it here. FE8 GIRLS 02
