Simulating and Pirating

  • I have no DS, can I still play these games? Yes, but compatibility will not be perfect. We recommended DeSmuME or no$gba with no$zoomer, both of which can be found on 4chan's /rs/ just go to emulator-zone.com so that way you know for sure you're completely updated. Several apps can be found in this thread[1], including frontends, skins, and a program to fix the crackling audio in New Super Mario Bros and others.
  • I have a DS, now tell me how to pirate! You are going to have to buy a flash card. The top of the line is the Supercard DSTwo, followed by the Acekard 2i, then finally the Original R4DS only. The Supercard DSTwo intelligently circumvents anti-piracy, and has the best ROM compatibility of anything in the range of flashcarts out there. Acekard users should upgrade their firmware to AKAIO to increase compatibility and anti-piracy features. If you have an R4, it is recommended you use the Wood R4 custom firmware to bump up its compatibility to Acekard 2i levels. Though it is not recommended to buy an R4DS these days, some websellers explicitly state if the R4DS is Wood R4 compatible, making for a cheaper solution than even the Acekard 2i. Another decent choice to consider would be the EZFlash Vi, which is not strictly top of the line but holds a high compatibility standard and is updated fairly frequently enough that becoming a diehard fan of the card itself is not difficult. Plus, the 3-in-1 is something to consider should you be a GBA fan. Don't bother with anything else!
    • Added note, avoid these flashcarts: M3i Zero (shitty support, DLDI auto-patching doesn't work worth a damn), DSTT (shitty support), CycloDS (overpriced and outdated by DStwo), iEdge (CycloDS clone), iSmart MM (inferior DSTwo imitation), EX4iDS (inferior DSTwo imitation) any R4DS clone such as SDHC, Gold, Ultra, King, III, etc.
    • For more detailed information on Homebrew & Flashcards check *here*
  • Notice: DSi and DSi XL have no GBA slot. They also supposedly have more "robust" anti-copyan features; in reality, the most you're going to need to do is update your card's firmware, which will require a couple extra unzips/patches on your part. Please plan accordingly when choosing a handheld. If you plan on playing GBA games on your DSi, buy a Supercard DS2!

999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors Adventure / Visual Novel Developed by Chunsoft, written by the writer of Ever 17 (which, if you don't know, is excellent), and localized by Aksys. You wake up on a cruise liner with eight other people, and all of you have entered the "Nonary game", where you will put your life on the line. This game combines visual novel-esque story segments with "escape the room"-type puzzles. Instantly gripping, with some of the very best story-telling you'll see. The game has multiple endings, some happier than others, and it's worth it to play through to all of them. If you only play one VN, make it this one. 999 nine nine nine
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Adventure / Visual Novel I just stuck all the Ace Attorney games together for orders sake. The first in the series. Take control of Phoenix Wright while you object like the motherfucking fist of the north star. Has an extra case exclusive to the DS version, which is great. It also has a version on the Wii, but the fifth case has to be purchased separately. Phoenix Wright - Ace Attorney Coverart
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice For All Adventure / Visual Novel The second entry in the series; while it's generally considered the weakest (along with Apollo Justice), the fuckwin final case makes up for it. The thing with this game is that its weakest case is the worst case in the series, but its best case is considered to be the best in the series, so it really pays off. Plus Franziska. This, too, has a version on the Wii. Phoenix Wright Justice For All Packshot
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations Adventure / Visual Novel Phoenix's final game before he steps down, and it is one hell of a ride. The final case is mind blowing. This is also available on the Wii. 939065 86611 front
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Adventure / Visual Novel A revamp of the series, with a new protagonist. While considered one of the weakest in the series, it's still pretty rockin' (literally). Includes DS-exclusive features from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney's extra case. Apollo-justice-ace-attorney.536925
Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth Adventure You know what this game has? Franziska. You know what this game doesn't have? Magic. Any questions? Of course not. While this is a very nice game in itself, it really shines with its meta-humor so be sure to play the other games first (which includes the original Phoenix Wright trilogy as well as Apollo Justice.) Step back, I'm gonna try LOGIC! Ace attorney investigations miles edgeworth boxart-300x269
Advance Wars: Dual Strike Strategy Features Jake, who is not as cool as Andy, but previous characters also return here. Lets you use dual COs, which allows for insanely broken combinations, but the game is still very fun and offers quite a bit of content. It style has the same happy, bright atmosphere of earlier games. Advance-wars-dual-strike1
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin Strategy Gone are the bright colors and go-lucky characters; a meteor strike has wiped them out (along with 90% of humanity). Takes the Advance Wars series in a whole new stylistic direction, but it still has silly anime characters with impossible hair colors. Considered to be the most balanced title in the series, and features great online and offline multi-player. Subtitled as Dark Conflict in Europe, with a different translation. Advance-wars-days-of-ruin
Again Adventure Another adventure game made by the developers of Hotel Dusk: Room 215, Cing. You are in the role of FBI Agent Jonathan Weaver, and you have the ability to see into the past. Nineteen years ago, a string of murders named the "Providence murders" occurred, and the killer was never caught. Now, it would seem the killer has resurfaced and is back to murdering once again. Partly fueled by personal motivation, Jonathan Weaver vows to finally catch the culprit. Was received quite poorly by reviewers, and definitely isn't the best of Cing's titles, but it's still worth a look if you enjoyed their other games. Again-Eye-of-Providence-box-art
Air Traffic Chaos (NA), Air Traffic Controller (EU) Sim A game were you play as an air traffic controller, a job that is famous for its insane stress levels and allegedly high suicide rates. That sounds like the most boring game ever but surprisingly, it works. This is a time-management game were you handle arrivals and departures in one of 4 airports, making sure no plane crashes. The stages can be long (a hard mode stage can last around 20 minutes), one crash is game-over and hard mode is hard, but that makes really rewarding to reach the end of a stage with no deaths on your watch. Air traffic controller
Animal Crossing: Wild World Sim It's Animal Crossing. Nothing too out of the blue. Move to a town inhabited by friendly anthros (it's not nearly as furry as it sounds). Work off the debt of your house (it's not nearly as boring or tedious as it sounds)! Now with DS-specific features, like stylus control and the option to design clothing by drawing on the touchscreen! Animal-crossing-wild-world-20060323091032903
Another Code: Two Memories / Trace Memory Adventure A short but fun adventure game. Usual point and click designs are present whilst throwing in some puzzles to make use of the DS's features. The North American version, Trace Memory also has a slightly improved localization takes more liberties with the translation, and makes Ashley American (She was British in the original, but whatever). If you like it, check out the sequel on Wii, titled Another Code: R – A Journey into Lost Memories - it's less creepy, has more puzzles, and more likeable characters. 51489-forside
Atelier Annie: Alchemists of Sera Island RPG / Sim An adorable RPG with a tropical island setting; lazy alchemist-in-training Annie is sent to participate in an alchemy contest involving the construction of a tropical resort. Great alchemy and combat systems, many fun characters, and an irresistible charm. Also a great introduction to the long-running Atelier series. Atelier Annie RPboxart
Avalon Code Action / RPG A short action RPG where you manipulate the "code" of things like characters, monsters, and weapons to change their characteristics. Has very nice 3D graphics (for the DS, that is). Some of the boss fights are ridiculously hard. Eventually, Swords become extremely powerful (especially with its super crazy spin attack that affects a large area) making things much more easier. The other weapons will do you good throughout the game as well. Dungeons require you to solve puzzles though each room giving you medals depending on how good you do. Also has interesting not-so-short sidequests and side stories for the characters you meet in the story. AvalonCode
Away: Shuffle Dungeon Action / Puzzle A puzzle-based adventure with dungeon crawler elements. You save villagers and defeat various bosses. Also, you have to walk/race between the two screens as one of them will "shuffle" with another room as time passes by. Each dungeon is utilizes this concept quite well. Story is awesome and crazy, the localization is surprisingly good, and the soundtrack is relaxing as fuck. Also, bosses are pretty interesting as well.

Was ragged on by reviewers for being NOT ZELDA, but do note that it's not like Zelda much at all. It is worth a shot, though.

AwayShuffleDungeon
Bangai-O Spirits Shoot 'em Up A sequel to the Dreamcast classic. While it doesn't live up to the original, it's still a great game on its own right. Features a shitton of levels and its own level editor. This game will make your DS lag. Bangai-O Spirits ds
Batman: The Brave and the Bold The Videogame Platformer / Beat 'em Up This might be the best Batman game so far. It looks awesome, plays smoothly, has lots of content and is very true to the actual show. You control Batman as well as one other hero per stage while you fight off a lot of cool looking enemies and battle villains like the Joker or Catwoman. The game is extremely easy and helps you out constantly, but offers optional challenges and tougher battles where you can earn bonuses and upgrades for Bats. Definitely check this one out if you're into beat 'em ups, even if you don't particularly care for the setting. Batman ds
Big Bang Mini Shoot 'em Up 90 levels, multiplayer, looks pretty nice plus the interesting touchscreen gameplay makes for a great shmup. Bigbangmini ds box
Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled RPG Western JRPG in the style of Chrono Trigger. A few bugs, but it's generally a good experience, especially if you've exhausted other RPG options on the DS. BlackSigilBladeoftheExiled
Bleach: Dark Souls Fighting A surprisingly solid fighter, even if you don't watch/like Bleach. Lots of characters to choose from, online play and a card power-up system (that's optional if you don't like them). Made by Treasure!!! 339152ps 500h
Blue Dragon Plus RPG / Strategy Very fun real-time strategy the employs the DS stylus, Blue Dragon Plus offers plenty of gameplay with a consistent difficulty curve that keeps you entertained. An actual sequel to Blue Dragon story-wise, so if you care about story, don't play this till' you finish the first. Has a bad reputation critically, but it's actually good, so fuck the magazines. Blue-dragon-plus
Boing! Docomodake DS Platformer / Puzzle Despite the name, this was indeed released out west. A very cute and addictive platformer with interesting puzzle-solving elements starring a mushroom. Fun fact: This game is actually an advertisement, because the character Docomodake is the mascot for NTT Docomo cell phone services. There's no in-game ads or phone references though, so don't worry. Docomodake cover
Bomberman 2 Puzzle Ditches the minigame system of the Touch! games in favour of a traditional Bomberman experience, which also has a ton of customization options (this affects your stats and skills). Also has online multiplayer, which is always a plus. This game was only released in Japan and Europe for some reason. Bomberman2nds portada
Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - The Director's Cut Adventure An updated port of the original PC version. This version features extra puzzles, some gameplay changes, and an updated story; however, there are some oddities in the programming. This version was also ported back to the PC. 61WBv8RgZAL
Bust-A-Move DS/Space Bust-A-Move Puzzle Arguably one of the most addictive puzzle series ever makes its way to the DS in these two incarnations. The gameplay is simple - shoot coloured bubbles to match up with other coloured bubbles at the top. Loads of modes and whatnot to keep you interested. Both versions are worth picking up, though its worth trying to test both out just to see which one's "feel" feels better for you.(PROTIP: You can actually change from the shitty touch screen controls in the options in B-A-M DS as many have complained about.) Bust-a-Move ds14264
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow Action The first DS Castlevania and direct sequel to the last GBA game, Aria of Sorrow. Lots of replay value, in fact replaying it is more fun than the first time around. Introduces a new anime art style, which you will either hate or hate but get over it. Castlevania-dawn
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia Action The third Castlevania for the DS, this ditches the dual character system from Portrait of Ruin for a new glyph system, which includes absorbing glyphs from enemies to gain new weapons and combining two for a new special attack. Starts out incredibly linear, but as expected, there's lots to do and explore later on. Good story, smooth soundtrack and a great Gothic art style makes this one of the best out of the three. Castlevania-box-0-0806-dsf
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin Action This game is pretty good. Features a concentration on teamwork and team-up skills. Also has a lot of extra characters and a balls-to-the-wall hard mode. Protip: NEVER SELL ANYTHING unless you can get more of it. 2nd of the DS games and the most "classic" Castlevania experience of the three DS games 3ae3e65ff286545579f8a61dfbc4ff13-Castlevania Portrait of Ruin
Chibi-Robo! Park Patrol/Welcome Home Chibi-Robo! Happy Rich Big Sweep! Action / Adventure A very overlooked and underrated title, it's the sequel to the Gamecube sleeper hit. You basically grow flowers while fending off enemies. It's better than it sounds, trust me. Not released in Europe.

Happy Rich Big Sweep is the "true" sequel to the first Chibi-Robo, in that you actually do house-cleaning. It takes place in grown-up Jenny's house. New tools, new locations, same awesome gameplay (but a little bit harder.) You don't need to know Japanese in order to enjoy it.

ChibiRobo-Park-Patrol-dsChibi robo 3
Chrono Trigger DS RPG The best version of one of the best RPGs of all time. Includes extra dungeons, a new ending, and all the cutscenes from the PS1 version. Also new modes, a monster battlan' minigame, optional touch-screen interface, plus tons of other extras. Time to show Lavos who's boss again and again. Even the translation has been updated! ChronoTriggerDS
Clubhouse Games (NA), 42 All-time Classics (EU) Compilation This is a collection of board games and card games, with some other games thrown in for good measure. Please note that five of these games are unlocked by beating the single player Stamps mode. The selection of games is superb (Chess! Texas Hold'em! Bowling!! Uno Last Card Plus!! Hangman Word Balloon!!!), every game has three difficulty settings, you can play with up to 8 more people using only one game card (everyone needs their own DS, though), you can play online if you have no friends, most games have customizable rules, there are different skins that can be unlocked for every game and you can chat a la PictoChat while playing. This game is a must-have, it's simply brilliant. 42alltime
Contact RPG A unique game which many lazyfags say "makes no fucking sense". Has a cooking system, jobs system, ATTACK STICKERS and more. On the same level as Earthbound, it asks you a bunch of questions at the beginning. Suggested to those looking for something different and who won't freak out about the lack of an hour-long intro-tutorial. Has many secrets, with even more post-game. Actually from the man behind the Shining Soul series for GBA, and NOT Suda 51. (Proof Here). Contact-ds
Contra 4 Run 'n Gun Balls to the wall hard, just like Contra should be. Some were concerned that it wouldn't live up to the other titles of the series, seeing as it wasn't developed by a Konami 1st party. Luckily, the 3rd party that tackled it really fucking loves the Contra series, so it turned out great. After the first playthrough a challenge mode is unlocked. that's when the game really gets awesome, a reward is granted for every four challenges you beat. 941461 91532 front
Coropata Puzzle The Incredible Machine featuring a loli. Over 100 different puzzles in which you must provide means for the autonomous Himawari to reach her destination. Entirely in moonspeak, but it's not like the plot is important. Menus are simple to navigate. Coropata
Cross Treasures Action / Roguelike Procedurally generated dungeons, customizable characters and 4 player co-op, Like a sweet, sweet lovechild between Diablo, DQIX and all the retarded monsters you drew when you were 6 years old.

Filled to the brim with references to Shonen Jump and arcade games, Put on your maid outfit and grab your christmas tree, we're going to floor 25 to take down a battleship in an 8-bit dungeon. One of the most under-appreciated DS games out there. English patch here

Culdcept DS RPG Similar to the Culdcept Saga game for Xbox 360, Culdcept DS is a mixture of Yu-Gi-Oh and Monopoly. Take various 'properties' by putting monsters on them, and raise their levels to increase the tolls your opponent must pay when he lands on them. Monsters can be boosted with items from your hand, and spells can affect a cepter's cards before he even plays them. NOTE: this game WILL make you A) Scream 'Fuck you, game!' and B) Throw your DS. This game is EXCRUCIATINGLY BASTARDESQUE - it will challenge you. Only released in Japan. Patch is out now: (Get it here). Culdcept-DS
Custom Robo Arena Action Horribly bad story and horribly bad cartoonish art. Battle is awesome though. You jump, shoot, throw bombs, and release tracking pods. There are also many different robos which move faster, move around the air better or have different close range attacks. CustomRoboArena
Daigasso! Band Brothers DX / Jam With The Band Rhythm

Play a wide variety of songs with a bunch of instruments. MIDI like music means all your screw-ups and shitty improvs come out of the speakers. About 7000 songs available for download, but the whole mess about music licensing means you can't delete any (and you only have space for 100 of them). You can't download them on a flash cart, instead you need to find saves with songs pre-loaded or use programs for importing/exporting individual songs within a save. Also released in Europe with a halved download limit, but the lack of publicity from NoE so far might mean you'll never reach it. Same deal about flashcards still applies.

The game also contains a nearly full-featured composer with 50 instruments, with 100 slots independent from the download slots. In fact, almost all of the songs available to the Japanese are user submissions.

Not to be mistaken with the Japan-only prequel from 2005, "Daigasso! Band Brothers", which honestly hasn't aged very well.

The Dark Spire RPG / Dungeon Crawler A direct throwback to first-person, dungeon-crawling roguelikes of yore, The Dark Spire will challenge you (and then some) with its combat, puzzles, and neverending floors. It has great art and music, and has an optional old-school mode that turns the graphics to wireframes and the sound to bleeps and bloops. Very polished. Comes with a soundtrack CD, and can be found cheap. But beware, as it is as tough as the games it's paying homage to. TheDarkSpire
Dawn of Heroes RPG / Strategy A fun little SRPG that has up to 26 heroes to recruit and customize and fight a shit ton of demons, trolls (not internet trolls), and fucking dragons. Has online multiplayer for battling and trading. 14787
Dementium: The Ward FPS / Survival Horror A survival horror game for the Nintendo DS. Surprisingly scary if you wear headphones and don't mind mediocre graphics. The gameplay is pretty slow-paced, but the atmosphere is chilling. Dementium
Dementium II FPS / Survival Horror Scarier than the first one, controls a lot better. Looks better. It's just an all around improvement. Plus the game's cover is just awesome. If you can only get one, this is the one to get. Dementium2
Densha de Go! Special Version/Revived! Showa Yamanote Line Sim DDG train simulator for DS. Covers the Yamanote Line's historical rolling stock through present along with several other tacked-on trains and lines. DDG DS
Desktop Tower Defense Strategy / Defense It's identical to the tower defense game of the same name that you can play over the Internet, for better or for worse (I mean, the flash game is free, but this you can play on the go, plus touchscreen). It has challenges, plenty of modes to play, trophies to earn and you can customize the sprites of your towers. Desktop
Digimon World: Dawn/Dusk RPG An alright Digimon game, with all the monster collecting as usual. If you're tired of Pokémon, give this a whirl. Dawn-coverDusk-cover
Disgaea DS RPG / Strategy A port of the PS2 version. Offers less available units and not as much voice acting, but also includes a couple of bonus characters (Plenair being one). If you can't get the PSP version, this is acceptable. D0061f4ff1243585b37067948229f44b-Disgaea DS
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen RPG A remake of the NES title with the improvements the PlayStation version received. Also has a new script, but for some reason party chat was removed. You control different characters in different chapters, and they all band together in the last (which is longer than all the others combined.) DragonQuest4
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride RPG Another Dragon Quest remake, this time of one that never left Japan. It features upgrades that the PS2 version received, plus several new ones, and a new translation (with party chat being restored). You can use monsters in your party (which can be decked out with gear in addition to learning skills and magic ). The excellent story will make you cry bitch tears.

Addendum: Waifus.

DragonQuest5
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation RPG The first official release of Dragon Quest VI in NA, and the conclusion to the DQIV-V-VI generational trilogy. This is an astoundingly well-made JRPG with a story centered on alternating between different realities. The new touches have only made it more enjoyable. Dqvi
Dragon Quest IX RPG The first DS-exclusive mainline title of the Dragon Quest series. Take the role of a fallen angel trying to regain his wings. Your party is completely customizable, even equipment changes your appearance. Features the job system of DQIII and the skill system and alchemy pot of DQVIII. This is also the first time a Dragon Quest game has co-op multiplayer (unfortunately offline-only) and downloadable sidequests, giving it nearly infinite replay value. The main quest is still as large as ever, so don't worry if you have no one to play with or can't go online with your DS.

If you absolutely NEED the online-exclusive stuff, you can get it with this handy tool. (Please note that you're a fag if you use it for anything but that)

Dqixus
Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime Action / Adventure You play as a Slime from Dragon quest, trying to save other slimes who have been kidnapped. Great gameplay that has Zelda-like exploration and a number of boss battles take place in giant tanks. The story is cute, and non-serious. Dragon quest heroes rocket slime amerique
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker RPG / Sim Solid gameplay, very good 3D, and has online functions. Monsters' skill sets are customized similar to Dragon Quest 8's, which grants bonuses, magic, and abilities respective to the types of skill sets you level up. Monsters can also be equipped with gear. A pretty good intro to DQM, despite not matching the 1+2's depth. 933956 87780 front
Elebits: The Adventures of Kai and Zero Action Adventure game where you use these spirits called Omegas to help you in solving puzzles. They consume Elebits which are livings forms of energy that turn into Watts when collected with the use of your capture gun and an Omega. Watts are used in the game to power objects and the Omegas. Omegas can evolve if you spend these Watts on them and their evolved forms use less watts and they make collecting watts a bit easier. ElebitsTheAdventuresOfKaiAndZero
Element Hunters Action / RPG Learn chemistry through violence! High speed Monster Hunter. Features awesome giant monsters, but actually allows you to jump on them instead of dodging. The sprites and models on the bosses are surprisingly stylish for a DS game. Has translated menus (via a patch) and a story no one gives a shit about. Element hunters
Elite Beat Agents Rhythm Tap beats in tune with the music while men in suits dance in the background to help people get by. Help a retired baseball player fight a fire golem, inspire Leonardo Da Vinci to draw the Mona Lisa, save the world from aliens. Way more awesome than it sounds. AGENTS ARE GO!

Addendum: Ridiculously hard for faggots even on easy difficulty.(though only on later sections.) Also feels WAY too short. With the replay value obviously being the extra difficulties and every now and then a secret stage unlocked.

Box
Etrian Odyssey RPG / Dungeon Crawler Brutal first person dungeon crawling. Offers tons of character customization. Unfortunately, certain classes are almost necessary to get past the early levels. Be prepared for FOE FOE FOE! Etrian odyssey box
Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard RPG / Dungeon Crawler The sequel offers a few minor improvements and rebalanced classes. Both aren't exactly story-based, so it doesn't matter which one you start with. You do get a minor reward item in EO2 for beating the first one, though. EtrianOdyssey2
Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City RPG / Dungeon Crawler Same gameplay as the first two except that you now explore an underwater city and all the heroes are completely new. The difficulty is more balanced and forgiving this time around, you can explore the seas around the city, there's a new item forging system that allows you to customize weapons and you can even use dual classes in this game. If you are completely new to EO, start with this one.

Protip: Get a prince/ss and put skill points into the passive healing abilities.

Etrian Odyssey III
Exit DS Puzzle / Platform Stylish & fascinating puzzle from Taito. DS version can be controlled by buttons or stylus. Eds b e
Feel The Magic: XX/XY Minigame Awesome game by Sonic Team in which you try to save the love of your life through several really wacky and original minigames. Great visuals and if you're a dirty bastard you can also collect clothes for the girl. Known in Europe as Project Rub. RUB IT! Box-l-1-
Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain First Person RPG A First-Person dungeon crawling RPG that mainstream reviewers hated because it was too hard. Based on the gamebook of the same name. Has 3D environments, 2D enemies, MPH controls and tons of loot. Protip: Pick a bow and stick with it. 961150 126778 front
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates Action / RPG The first of the Crystal Chronicles for the DS. It's may not be as favorable as EoT, but it has some favorable things that EoT doesn't. The story is much more interesting that EoT and you play the game with up to 4 characters at your command each with unique abilities, which makes this the puzzle solver of the duo. Has multiplayer, but you might as well play EoT for that. Ndsffccfingfateeng
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time Action / RPG The latest in the Crystal Chronicles spin-off series. The DS and Wii versions are the same (as in literally the same game with the exact same graphics), though the DS one is played online more than the Wii one on /v/. Unfortunately, the online is extremely lag with about half a second input lag. Look at PS0 if you want online play. FinalFantasyCrystalChroniclesEOT
Final Fantasy III RPG A fully 3D remake of Final Fantasy III, which was originally never released outside of Japan. Unlike the NES version, the orphans have a background this time, and there's bonus content; however, most you have to unlock by sending messages back and forward via friend codes. As usual, there are many classes to choose from and to level up, but choose wisely. If you haven't played it yet, now is the time to do so. 7696b5112ba774cca4fcf437d73aa9e3-Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy IV RPG A fully 3D remake of the SNES game. Includes decent voice-acted cut scenes and a new ability system designed to offer a modicum of customization in the least-customizable FF game to date. Also of note is the increased difficulty over previous ports of the game. Arguably, the best version of FF4 currently available. FinalFantasy4
Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift RPG / Strategy The sequel to the GBA game, BUT laws can no longer make missions non-winnable, and jail has been removed. The worst part of breaking the law is being unable to revive allies until the end of battle. Enemies are also above the law now, apparently. Side-quests are much more varied and really carry the weight of the game through their stories. More classes, more races, more abilities. Shitload of content to keep you busy. Make sure not to stick to the main quest, it's story is garbage. Game is slow as balls too; only for those with patience or playing in small bursts. 08043001
Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light RPG Made by the same people who gave you III and IV remakes on the DS. A classic fantasy-RPG reminiscent to the Famicon games. A couple of things to note is the "Charge" command in place of magic points and that you can switch jobs using the crown system. Ff 4 heroes
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon RPG / Strategy A remake of the original Fire Emblem. You know, the one with Marth. Features online play and the usual Fire Emblem jazz. If you've played any Fire Emblem game before, you know exactly what to expect. One new addition is that you can change the characters' classes...which might sound like too much of a deviation from tradition, but it works well. 338452ps 500h
Freshly-Picked: Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland Action / RPG A quirky game where you take control of everyone's favorite little faggot, Tingle. Everything runs off rupees; combat, the goal of the game, everything. This was released in Japan and Europe, but not the U.S. obviously because of general American up-tightness towards sex issues. Also, this game made Tingle a man. Tingle DS
Front Mission DS RPG / Strategy The definitive remake of the SNES title that never left Japan. Includes a USN campaign with a new protagonist, which further explains the events of the 2nd Huffman Conflict. Has a bunch of improvements and extras over the original, including secret missions, character cameos and areas. Front mission DS
Game & Watch Collection Compilation Fuck year for stripping down video games to their most basic element! Here are two DS games that collect some of the best original Game & Watch titles; unlike the G&W Gallery series for the Gameboy, these don't enhance the visuals and add Nintendo characters... nope, original style only and you'll like it! But seriously, for something so simple, you'll find yourself having tons of addictive fun. The first collection contains Donkey Kong, Green House, and Oil Panic. The second collection collects Parachute and Octopus, and for the third game, instead tries something different with Parachute X Octopus (which sounds like a frightening hentai) where you play Parachute on the top screen, and then switch to Octopus on the bottom screen, and keep switching back and forth to fuck your game up, because that's how Nintendo fucking rolls. You can only get these from Club Nintendo (by buying lots of first-party DS games and redeeming included codes online)... but if you do, hey, it's free! G&W C1G&W C2
Geometry Wars Galaxies Shoot 'em Up When you turn on this game, you better be fucking ready. Expect colours, particles, killer shapes, and a huge fucking multiplier. Adds a nice RPG element where you level up a drone to save your ass, like a true bro. Remember to use a fucking screen protector on your lower screen because the game will fuck it up if you don't. Can link with the Wii version to unlock the final levels. Geometry-wars-galaxies-cover-thumb
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective Adventure / Puzzle Written by the writer of the Ace Attorney series, and set in the same universe to boot, at least according to him. You wouldn't know because there are no proper cameos, just teases. You have been killed and became a ghost with amnesia and the ability to possess objects. You have 'til dawn to discover your identity and why you where killed using your powers to set ridiculous Rude Goldberg machines in order to save people from dying (oh, right, you can time-travel four minutes before someone's recent death). If you like visual novels, then play it because it has really great characters and solid writing. Sadly, it's a tad too short (5-6 hours if you don't get stuck), but mostly because the story has close to no padding. Ghostrickcover
Giana Sisters DS Platformer Take the Amiga cult classic and add a shitload of new levels, music and spritework. Because of shitty publishers, this game has only been released in Germany and Australia. The brothers would be history otherwise. Still a total rip-off but still good. The difficulty is nowhere near the original though, so everybody can enjoy this. Giana ds
Glory of Heracles RPG The first of the Greek-themed RPG series to make it overseas, and an excellent entry. Takes elements from previous GoH games and adds new ones. It features OPTIONAL touch-screen power boosts to your skills and magic (think Mario RPG). An intriguing adventure done by an ace team of old-schoolers. Recommended to buy as it's worth every Drachma and goes fairly cheap, too. A bit easy, but features some post-game content to extend play-time. Goh5
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn RPG A sequel to the GBA classics, this time with 3D graphics and alot more animation and fluidity. Thankfully, they've managed to keep the artstyle and gameplay consistent with the GBA games.

Still has giant walls of text and the difficulty is very low, but if you liked the GBA games and are looking for a nice little RPG, give this a try.

Golden Sun Dark Dawn
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Action / Sandbox Uses a top-down perspective similar to early GTA games. Looks pretty and plays extremely smoothly. Don't expect it to go easy on the story just because it's on the DS. Ported to PSP with 'better' graphics but is amazingly poor. Gta chinatown wars boxart
Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands Sim Great control improvements on the previous installments with the option of choosing to play with the stylus OR the gamepad.  Same great Harvest Moon gameplay with characters introduced in the previous game. Harvestmood
Harvest Moon: Grand Bazaar Sim Yet more Harvest Moon. Feels kind of dumbed down, the game is 5 screens large so that says something. The NPCs and waifus are pretty boring too, but the game is more focused on manufacturing and items-creating than the other HMs, so if that was one of your favorite aspect, check it out. Also yes, mining is gone. Harvest-Moon-Grand-Bazaar
Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure Platformer / Puzzle A hybrid platformer/puzzler that fucking owns. The top screen is a standard platformer, while the bottom is a puzzle game that ties neatly to the gameplay. Plus, it features a stereotypical British man. Just icing on the cake. Bully! Don't be turned off by the fact it's made by EA though. Henry1
Hero's Saga Laevatein Tactics RPG / Strategy A strategy game with a fun battle system. Also all the characters are Spanish. Laevatein
Hotel Dusk: Room 215 Adventure A game by Cing, the creators of Trace Memory; this game is a little more refined than their previous title. Explore the eerie Hotel Dusk while unraveling the mystery behind it. Fantastic atmosphere, great characters and a nice art style make this a must play. Not much replay value, though."I got myself a paper clip." Hdcover
Last Window: The Secret of Cape West Adventure The sequel to Hotel Dusk. It was released in Japan and Europe only, but you can import it since all DS games are region-free. Everything great about the prequel is also in this game, and is also a must play. Last Window Cover 1167
Illust Logic DS + Colorful Logic Puzzle Picross plus a few more other features where there are also puzzles that use color. You could also solve pieces of a bigger picture somewhat like in Picross 3D. Animations and small minigames are gone though. It's japanese but still playable. IllustLogicDS+ColorfulLogic
Inazuma Eleven Sports / RPG A soccer RPG title from Level 5. Yes, a soccer RPG. The RPG part is kinda like Pokémon in which you recruit thousands of players to your team, develop their stats and have them learn new techniques. The battles are super fun, using the stylus to move the players around, pass, kick and summon a fucking fire dragon to score dat goal. Story and chars are so-so. EU and JP only. There's an undub project on the way that can be found here and there may be a way to access characters from the second game... Ask Inazuma-Eleven-1-
Infinite Space RPG / Strategy Build and customize ships, battle space pirates and take over the galaxy. Deeper systems than a lot of DS strategy games. Tons of sidequests and missable shit. Your character is The Generic Young Hero but at least he gets a Garlock-makeover halfway through the story. Battles are slow paced but still manage to be fun.

Note: Don't buy fake flowers for sickly lolis unless you want them to grow up as evil dominatrices who will try to kill you.

Infinite-space-box
Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns RPG / Roguelike This is also a roguelike styled game. Dungeons are randomly generated, but seperate from each other, with bosses at the end of them, making for a more casual-styled approach to roguelikes. Don't think it's easy though, because it's still as hard as any. Thankfully though, you can explore with two characters at a time, and when both die, they only lose gear, not their stats. Because of the quick-burst style gameplay, it is a bit easy. If you want a MUCH harder game, consider Shiren the Wanderer. Izuna 2
Jump! Ultimate Stars Fighting A Smash-Bros-esque fighter with a fuckton of animu characters (unfortunately, though, only JUMP!-exclusive ones) and cameos. The roster will appeal both to classic animu fans (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Fist of the North Star, Dragon Ball, Kinnikuman, etc.) and modern weeaboos (Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, etc.). Has online play, but everyone uses cheat codes. In addition, the community is filled with petty people who, upon losing, will use a glitch that forces everyone to reset the game. Highly recommended to play with friends. Improved sequel to Jump! Super Stars, also on the DS.Full translation available. 8b2476c6d5431e99c041b1f67533a8eb-Jump Ultimate Stars
Kaiju Busters Action / RPG The DS version of Monster Hunter. Stays true to the formula of using giant weapons to fight huge monsters, but uses monsters from old Japanese monster movies. The game is entirely in moonspeak, and the chances of a patch are low, but the language barrier isn't overwhelming. Actually has 3 player local co-op. Make sure to use the Universal Child's Play patch. Kaiju busters
Ketsui Death Label Shoot 'em Up Boss Rush version of the popular shooter by Cave. Loads of difficulties and a weird ass multiplayer. It's got some weird Japanese humor on it if you can understand moonspeak. 0G04I11250
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days Action / RPG An extension of the Kingdom Hearts series on the Nintendo DS. Focuses largely on Organization XIII, that group of totally-not-S&M-themed-at-all bosses from KH2 whom the fandom loves for reasons unknown. Takes a very few concepts from Chain of Memories, but plays like the traditional KH formula. Also has a mission mode that lets you play with a number of different characters, including Donald, Goofy, and Mickey; and you can even multiplayer locally.

Unsurprisingly, there are massive yaoi undertones in the main story. Hope you like sea salt ice cream.

KingdomHearts 358over2
Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded Action / RPG Has different sorts of gameplay in the worlds and bosses; however, in the main action, you can customize your stats like in 358/2 Days (but better), combine skills like in Chain of Memories (but better), and fight enemies with Birth By Sleep's battle system. Like in The World Ends With You, you can tweak difficulty and loot payoff options. Although it treads familiar ground, it remixes any expectations unpredictably well, and has a good deal of extra content, thanks to the bug world and post-game. Easily the best spinoff yet, after Birth by Sleep.Note: Got low reviews from some, because some people don't know how to use the options menu, nor did they do all the cool extras. Too bad for them. Kingdom hearts recoded
Kira Kira Pop Princess / Pop Town Music / Rhythm Loli rhythman, dancan, and dressan up. Most manly game ever. What more do you want? An undub to get rid of the terrible English voices? Here Original Japanese title was Pinky Street Kira Kira Music Hour. The sequel, Pop Town (AKA Pinky Street Kira Kira Music Night) has a hard mode and stars the rival girl. Unfortunately, there is no undub for it.All clothing pieces are from actual Pinky Street figurines, for the collector in you. -DS- Kira Kira Pop PrincessPoptown
Kirby Canvas Curse Platformer Tries something completely different. Instead of sucking things up and platforming like usual, you draw paths for Kirby to roll on. The game is touch-screen only. Really fucking annoying at times, especially in water levels. Kirby canvas curse
Kirby Squeak Squad Platformer The most traditional Kirby DS title, and incidentally the weakest. It follows the standard "suck shit up for abilities" system. A fun game, even if the touchscreen feature is sort of annoying. Called Kirby Mouse Attack in Europe for some reason (because Squeak Squad shortens to S.S., and Nintendo wants to sell to Germans too). 169d10dec6744de182c74c2a64a1c306-Kirby Squeak Squad
Kirby Superstar Ultra Platformer A remake of the SNES classic with some new content. New game modes, slightly updated visuals and new FMVs. A must have for any Kirby or 2D platformer fan. Kirby super star ultra
Knights in the Nightmare RPG / Strategy The fourth in the "Dept. heaven' saga (along with Riviera and Yggdra Union, while the third has not been made). You control the wisp with the stylus to activate the spirits of your dead soldiers in a very strange mix of bullet hell, chess and SRPG. The story is told through flashbacks as you progress through the game. After beating the game you unlock new game +, where it presents a "what if?" situation with a new protagonist. The last half of the game drags on between intense boss battles, but is still an excellent game if you can get into it. Also features tons of characters and an hour long tutorial (optional). KnightsintheNightmare
Action / Adventure The Ys series has a cult status here in America. Gameplay is similar to Zelda whereas story feels old-school Final Fantasy-ish. This package has both of the first two games, although, it's noted that the 3D backgrounds are a little ugly. People often recommend the Turbo CD version or the PSP ports over the DS ones. Does come with an extra area and boss, however. Also comes with fancy packaging and a soundtrack. Legacy of YS
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass Action / Adventure The cel-shaded Link returns in new, pixel-y form on the DS. The controls work well and the graphics are good for the DS, but it isn't one of the better Zelda titles. If you can get past the forced stealth, non-killable enemies and arbitrary time limits in the dungeon you have to make your way through every time you beat a dungeon, you'll be able to enjoy it. Also, it's a direct continuation to The Wind Waker so, if you never played that one, brace for some spoilers. The-legend-of-zelda-phantom-hourglass-ds.404170
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks Action / Adventure Fantastic sequel to Phantom Hourglass that improves on the rather dull formula from its predecessor. Puzzles are some of the most solid in the 2D game series and are actually challenging. The formula is the same as Phantom Hourglass, but all of the flaws from its prequel have been removed from this game and/or refined in some way. It's still very linear in travel, but if you can get over that, it's a solid experience with seriously likable characters, one of the best final boss fights in the series, some of the best music in the series, and some really cool puzzles.IMPORTANT ADVICE TO SAVE YOU THREE DAYS OF RAGE: Whenever you have to do a flute segment, wait for the camera to center on Link before you start playing. DO NOT START PLAYING EARLY. OTHERWISE IT WILL MESS UP THE ENTIRE SONG. EVERYBODY GETS STUCK ON THIS AT SOME POINT. EVERYBODY. Legend-zelda-spirit-tracks-box-ds
The Legendary Starfy Platformer Cute game, awesome for youngsters. The sprite graphics are great with bright and colorful 3D parallax backgrounds. The game is extremely easy though but has tons of stuff to collect and many many extras. The story is nice and cute too. Densetsu no Stafy 4, previous game and 4th in the series is also on the DS but JP only. Starfy2-1-
Lego Rock Band Music / Rhythm Basically Rock Band: Unplugged for the DS. Lego Rock Band DS
Little Red Riding Hood Zombie BBQ Shoot 'em Up It's a fun, typical shmup, but bosses are taken from fairy tales and shit, except zombified and horror themed (?). It can be rage inducing hard at times.

The full game is available on DSiware for just 800 points.

LRRHZBBQ
Lock's Quest Strategy / Defense Fun little tower defense game, perfectly suited for the DS. Also has multiplayer. PID21587uk61UwBJOKU2L
Loopop Cube: Loop * Salad DS Puzzle Think Sokoban as a 2D platformer, with a loli on top. Extremely hard puzzler where you push blocks around to bring them together and make them disappear. Sounds simple and even looks it at first but these are really tough - and there are hundreds of puzzles. Also features annoying the sweetest music ever (subtitled if you care).. Loopopcubecover1
LostMagic RPG / RTS An RPG game where you and the monsters you capture go fight evil. To call upon the magics of earth, water, fire, wind, darkness and light, you must draw their various symbols. Different stronger magics use different combinations of these symbols. There are a lot of different spells to learn and monsters to collect. LostMagic
Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals Action / RPG The hotly debated Lufia 2 remake. Purists may twist their panties at first, but the game retains almost* all of the original story, (with some condensing of locations and events), and even some classic scenes remain word-for-word. The gameplay is a fast-paced kingdom hearts-style action, with a really fun "stone" system for stat placement, and yes- THE ANICENT CAVE DOES RETURN! While it may not be for everyone, and the art style changed drastically, it's an addictive little re-imagining of an old classic that's definetely worth a try if you're an RPG fan. (*Hope you nerds like Tia.) Lufia DS
Luminous Arc 2 RPG / Strategy Boasts some nice improvements over the original that make it worth playing. The first one has a great story but downgraded graphics and gameplay. Overall pretty easy, but great for anime fans. This game has lots of fanservice and takes about 200 hours to reach 100%.Lots of breasts, oh god what the fuck breasts everywhere ma'am what are you doing. Luminous-arc-2-will-20080710050319140
Lunar Knights Action / Adventure A fun, somewhat clunky action spinoff of the Boktai series. Works off an in-game system rather than real solar sensors, but you can use the sensors from a copy of one of the original Boktai carts if you insert it in the GBA slot. Lunar-knights-ds
Lux-Pain Adventure / Visual Novel Hunt mind worms and read others' thoughts. Good story, awesome dark atmosphere, and a very nice anime art style. Features surprisingly many dialog options, but without much of an effect on the story. There's some minor RPG elements, too.

Beware, the localization job for this game is half-assed, as it was done in India (though, the voice acting was done by an American company); there are numerous grammatical errors, typos, unnecessarily shortened words, and sentences that just don't make any sense.

Lux-pain-n
Maestro! Jump in Music Music / Rhythm You follow Presto, your happy-go-lucky bird protagonist, on hunt for all the music notes in the world, having been nicked by the big baddy in the bizarre opening movie. Your goal is to help him overcome the various obstacles in his path, using your stylus to pluck strings and hit monsters. You can even sing along with the mic (don't worry, it's optional).  OH SOLE MIOOO. Maestro! Jump in Music
Magician's Quest: Mysterious Times Sim Also known as Enchanted Folk and the School of Wizardry. Animal Crossing clone with Harry Potter mixed in. What's not to like? 14028
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story Action / RPG The third entry of the series, Bowser's Inside Story is arguably the best of the series. If you hated Partners in Time for its obnoxious babies, lack of Fawful, irritating controls, complete linearity, or just not being as good as Superstar Saga, you will love this game. Be warned pirates, this game sports mean anti-piracy. 954368 124866 front
Mario Kart DS Racing The Mario Kart everyone loves, Blue Shells and all. Lots of tracks and online is fun (if you don't mind the snaking). You can play multiplayer even with people who don't have the game via DS Download Play (although they'll be stuck playing as Shy Guys). Best Mario Kart! 15
Mega Man Star Force RPG The spiritual successor to Battle Network. While it's definitely not as good as Battle Network, it's still worth a play if you liked them. Stay the fuck away from 2 though - unless you're fucking masochist. 3 happens to be fucking amazing. MegamanStarforce3BARJ
Mega Man Zero Collection Action / Hack 'n Slash This is a compilation of Mega Man Zero 1,2,3 and 4. You can either play an "Easy Scenario", which takes you through all four games with just one save slot (and, as the name states, an overall easier experience) or play each of them seperately and with its original difficulty. Completing each game unlocks 'mod cards' which you can use to change certain things in Mega Man Zero 3, like adding people to the base or upgrading your weapons. Mmzerods
Mega Man ZX / Mega Man ZX Advent Action / Hack 'n Slash Exclusive Mega Man title for DS. Big and complex levels, wonderful OST, selectable male/female protagonist. Difficulty level is much less than Mega Man Zero. Megaman-zx-portadaMega-man-zx-advent-ds
Metal Slug 7 Shoot 'em Up It's what you'd expect from a Metal Slug game, right down to the RAWKET LAWN CHAIR. Not the strongest in the series, though still worth a shot. The art is just as smooth as other entries, but because of the DS' resolution it had to be scaled down, which makes it look kind of weird. There is a combat school mode that alows you to become awesome and befriend the moe drill instructor.

Enhanced remake for the PSP, titled Metal Slug XX.

Metalslug7
Meteos Puzzle Sakurai's puzzle brainchild. Plays like Tetris Attack on crack, which is, not surprisingly, fucking awesome. Fire those bastards into space! Meteos-nds
Metroid Prime Hunters Action / Adventure / FPS An FPS that handles fairly decently. Controls sort of need some getting used to, otherwise online multiplayer is pretty fun unbalanced decent. Sequel is rumored to be in the works. Metroid Prime Hunters
Metroid Prime Pinball Pinball Samus rolled up into a ball and decided to be a pinball. You know how this works. Surprisingly good.

Also: One of the few games that makes use of the DS Rumble Pack!

METROID-PRIME-PINBALL-NDS
Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes Puzzle / RPG / Strategy Do you like block/color matching puzzle games? Do you like strategy games? Do you like RPGs? Do you like all three of them combined into one glorious package? If yes, go download buy this game. If no, stop gaming immediately. MMClashOfHeroesBoxshot
Monster Tale Action / Adventure / Platformer Previously known as "Project Monster", some members of the Henry Hatsworth team have rejoined forces as DreamRift to create a game that tries new things, but stays true to the genre's roots. The neat twist here is that you have a critter in the lower screen who can assist you in top/bottom/hybrid screen puzzles and fights. Not only that, but you help raise the little beast in various ways (like a Digimon or somethin'). Fans of Westone's Monster World series may want to keep their eyes on this would-be spiritual successor. Monstertale
Moon FPS / Survival Horror Made by Renegade Kid, who made Dementium. This game is the team's second attempt at making a DS FPS/Horror game. This time, it's on the moon, hence the title. Responsive touch-screen controls, good looking environments and graphics, and fun boss fights. It's kind of on the short side, and never really TOO scary, but it's worth picking up. An improvement over Dementium. Moon Cover Art
Mr. Driller: Drill Spirits Puzzle Doesn't really make much use of the DS's features, but hey, who needs 'em. Still a great game that's easy to play, but hard to master.US version is missing a extra character, so get the European version. Vignette ouvrageId174
Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer Roguelike This game is packed with content, such as puzzles, tons of weapons and items, and cool spell scrolls. Each area is randomly generated, making for a fresh experience each play-through. It's also notoriously brutal. Unlike most RPGs, if you die, you lose EVERYTHING not in storage, including your stats and all you have on you. If you find this too hard, consider Izuna 2. If you like this, try the Wii sequel, Shiren the Wanderer. For a different Roguelike, try PMD below. Shiren ds
N+ Platformer A port of the popular (and free) flash game. Features a map editor and sharer and multiplayer modes. Also on Xbox 360 Arcade and PSP, but with different levels because the game developers are cool like that. Ga0808263d
Nanostray 2 Shoot 'em Up Addresses the original's content problems by offering multiple schemes, allowing for a much better experience. Nanostray2boxart
New Super Mario Bros. Platformer A Mario Bros. game with nice, crisp graphics and the great gameplay you'd expect. A bit on the easy side, but most Mario games have never been known for their crushing difficulty. Sequel/spinoff is on Wii, also good. New-super-mario-bros-20060306011305230
Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword Action Looks very nice, and the controls are spot on most of the time. You hold your DS sideways to play, which is always fun. Ninja-gaiden-dragon-sword-small1
Ninjatown Strategy / Defense The other great tower defense game for the DS. Round, cute character designs and somewhat amusing characters. Sort of challenging unless you're going for A-ranks on everything, which is hard as hell. Ninjatown
Okamiden Action / Adventure Much better than Zelda DS games, a fine sequel that stays true to the spirit and tone of the original. Brush techniques work wonderfully well on DS. Also, the protagonist is the most fucking adorable thing you'll ever see in a video game. Okamiden
Ontamarama Music / Rhythm Another rhythm game, but in this one you must use the D-pad AND the touchscreen to play, which is harder than it sounds. Press or circle some balloon-animal thingies with your stylus to charge incoming arrows, and use the D-pad to follow the arrows and the rhythm. Check this link if you didn't get all that. Disoriented? You will be. Ontamarama
Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan / Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2 Music / Rhythm Same idea and the basis for Elite Beat Agents, except instead of American pop/rock you get J-pop and J-rock instead. Near-Gurren Lagann levels of HOTBLOODEDNESS to be found. The sequel allows you to choose which cheering squad to play as (sort of). OUENDAN! Obviously, Japanese only, but if you played Elite Beat Agents, you won't have a problem. Osu! Tatakae! Phantasy Star Zero RPG Phantasy Star Online's awesome little brother. Character creation has huge customization opportunities. Has online play, which is a blast with a group. PhantasyStarZero
Pic Pic Puzzle Like picross as you solve puzzles to create a picture but with different puzzles. There are three modes with 400 pictures to create for each (1200 pictures): Maze, Connect Numbers (ex:4--4), and fill in the 9x9 area with the number in the middle (ex:number is 6, 6/9 blocks are black, 3/9 blocks are white). Pokémon Diamond and Pearl RPG / Monster Sim

The first Pokémon main games on Nintendo DS. Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, taking place in a whole new Region, Sinnoh, introduce more than 100 new monsters. Using Nintendo DS's Wi-Fi, it makes them the first Pokémon games to feature online battles and trades. Generally outclassed by Platinum, though - Diamond and Pearl are really only worth playing these days for historical/sentimental value (if such things can really be applied to Pokémon games).

DiamondUSPearlUS
Pokémon Platinum RPG / Monster Sim Gotta catch 'em all, just like the three previous generations. The updated version of Diamond and Pearl, it includes a greater variety of Pokémon native to Sinnoh, graphical updates and a deeper storyline, as well as revamped gyms and battles brought up from 'snail' speed to 'turtle' speed. Includes tons of stuff to do over Wi-Fi and once the game is finished. PokemonPlatinum
Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver RPG / Monster Sim Pokémon as you know it, but with nostalgia-goggles cranked up to the max. You can have any Pokémon (yes, even Wailord) waddle around behind you. Remake of what people will argue is the best iteration in the series, while remaining very similar to Platinum. Much longer than most Pokémon games, as you can continue on to Red and Blue's Kanto region after you finish the main Johto campaign.

An item called GBPlayer can be used to play the original music too, which is pretty cool, I guess.

Pokemon HeartGold Version boxPokemon SoulSilver Version box
Pokémon Black and White RPG / Monster Sim The fifth generation of Pokémon, taking place in the Unova region (sort of based on New York City and the surrounding area). A lot more plot-based than past installments, with recurring NPCs such as your childhood friends (who actually serve a purpose in the plot this time) and the mysterious N (AKA Bishonen Chris-chan). There's 156 new critters to find, and all 649 Pokémon have smoothly animated sprites in battle, which change when their HP is low or they have a status effect. The speed of the battles has been cranked up even further, so if you turn attack animations off then they'll be over in a flash, making level- and EV-grinding much less tedious. TMs have infinite uses now, so you needn't worry about who to give TM moves to.

It should also be noted that until you finish the main story, all of the Pokémon you'll see are new. Yup, no more Geodudes and Zubats. Likewise, many of the new Pokémon feel like new counterparts of critters from the original games (Timburr is basically Machop with a log). As a result of this, Black and White feel a lot more fresh than past games - if you've lost interest in Pokémon due to the repetitive nature of the series, these two will probably rekindle your interest.

Pokemon BlackPokemon White
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky RPG / Roguelike Unlike the roguelikes above, it's hard to gauge difficulty here. Everyone's a Pokémon, and like Poké-games, have elemental weaknesses, so depending on what you and your partner are can make different dungeons easier or harder. The game is kind of quest-based, so unlike Izuna and Shiren, it's not entirely linear. You only lose your items when you die, since you keep your attacks. A different approach, but one worth trying. Supposedly, Sky is the most "well-rounded" of the PMDs. Pmd ds
Princess Debut Rhythm / Sim You get to live the dream and be the little girl. In addition, you're also a princess. The ball will be held soon, and it's up to you to find yourself a dance partner/love interest. Dancing is done through stylus movements a la Elite Beat Agents, with difficulty depending on the song style. Find cute outfits, new songs, and possibly your true love in the manliest game of all time. Princess debut
Prism: Light the Way Puzzle Puzzle game where you control light rays of different colors so they hit the same color creatures on the screen. This game actually require some thinking or logic. PrismLightTheWay
Professor Layton and the Curious Village Adventure / Puzzle Lots of brain teasers and logic puzzles to wrap your head around, plus an enjoyable storyline and quirky characters. This reminds me of a puzzle... Layton
Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box Adventure / Puzzle Continues the story after the first Layton. Still awesome and look, professor! I found a puzzle!

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future Adventure / Puzzle The conclusion to the Professor Layton trilogy (but not the end of the series). The best Professor Layton so far with an awesome story and its ridiculous spoiler with some cooler mind-fucking puzzles. Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
Puchi Puchi Virus Puzzle "Pure awesome" is where the gameplay comes in, but that is an overestimation. All you need to do is wipe out virii before they take over the screen by tapping like colors to form triangles and tapping one of them again to get rid of all three. Puchi puchi virus
Puyo Puyo! 15th Anniversary and Puyo Puyo 7 Puzzle 15th Anniversary includes classic and Fever modes along with a bunch of gimmick ones. A great package unless you really hate the aesthetics of the Fever series. There's online, but it's not very populated these days. A translation patch is available, and it calls Satan "Satan" instead of "Dark Prince".Puyo Puyo 7 has a few different characters (more like reskins), a new take on fever mode (Mini/Huge Mode) in favor of gimmicks, and a more active online community. Get your ass beat down by moon people or huge weeaboos. It also continues to include the classic modes. A full translation patch is available here, if you care about the riveting storyline or can't figure out how to navigate the menus. Puyo puyo 15th anniversary ds boxPp7
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords Puzzle / RPG Your not-so-simple puzzle and RPG game. The pieces you match are gained in the form of mana which are then used to cast various spells that can cause damage, delay turns or cause status effects. You level up, allocate your stats points, learn new spells, and equip various equipment that don't just increase damage or defense. PuzzleQuestChallengeOfTheWarlords
Puzzle Quest 2 Puzzle / RPG This is quite different from the previous Puzzle Quest. Some puzzle pieces are different, equipment is more simplified and more boring, and you explore dungeons that are linked together. You can no longer capture monsters, learn their skills, ride them, buy your stats and some other things like in the original. With those gone, they added in a load of minigames which are also solvable by matching three pieces. PuzzleQuest2
Radiant Historia RPG An excellent and lengthy RPG offering brought stateside by Atlus, Radiant Historia will draw inevitable comparisons to the revered Chrono Trigger because the story is centered around time travel. However, here you enter specific scenarios in which you must fight (quick, grid-based, turn-based) battles and make strategic choices to succeed. Excellent production values and accomplished character/world design. Rh
Resident Evil Deadly Silence Action / Survival Horror A port of the PlayStation original. Features updated controls and a new game mode. Graphics, sound and even FMV are mostly the same. If there isn't any other alternative, this will do. Residentevildeadlysilensy9
Retro Game Challenge Minigame Are you an oldfag? Do you want to know what they mean by "the good old days of gaming"? Then look no further than RGC, which aims to duplicate the feel of gaming in the 80's. Unlock various minigames (including a full RPG!), peruse gaming magazines for tips, talk about the The Wizard and the Power Glove, and revel in in the 8-Bit heydays of gaming, complete with Engrish. Even though it's short and rather easy, give this blast to the past a try. There is also a japanese only sequel which is far more awesome because it has SNES and GBC style games, but you'll only be able to play it by looking up guides since it features very text-heavy games. Robocalypse Strategy Watch this trailer. If that doesn't make you want to play the game, then you you're lying; you never watched the trailer. It features non-retarded funny dialogue, a great story, and easy-to-learn controls. The game is a bit on the easy side and a little short, but it does have a hard mode to make up for it. Robocalypse
Rondo of Swords RPG / Strategy Like a mix of Shining Force and Fire Emblem, Rondo of Swords is about prince Serdic and his allies who must reclaim his throne from enemy forces. The story is decent, but can get pretty twisted depending on your key decisions. The combat involves making a path, striking through multiple enemies, and getting boosts from allies. Battles are fuck hard, but that's why you can retreat (when allowed to) to review your tactics and even send out allies to train and get supplies. RondoBox
Rub Rabbits Minigame The Sequel to Feel the Magic, mentioned above. More crazy ass minigames, silhouette love, and silly fun. Chock full of extra features, such as a (short) secondary storyline, a baby-making game for you and your (non-existent) significant other, and Hullabaloo, a simple party game that's basically twister for your hands. An enormous amount of dress-up options for the girl, including clothing you can design yourself will surely cater to the ten-year-old-girl in you. Harder difficulties provide obscene difficulty. Surpasses the original, but since both are totally different experiences, you should play them both.

Warning: Continuous stroking, touching, and blowing may cause unwanted attention in public places.

Rune Factory 1, 2, & 3 Sim Harvest Moon with RPG elements. Surprisingly fun and addictive. Also check out the sequel if you liked this, pretty much the same, except you play as someone who kinda looks like a young Wander, before he went on to kill a bunch of colossi.

Rune Factory 3 is now out in the US, it is by far the best one in the series. Combat in it sees a massive improvement, dozens of techniques can be learned and executed with weapon types that don't even make sense (i.e. Some sort of flashing sword technique with a HAMMER).

Also one of your waifu can turn into a phoenix in battle to help you.

Suggested that you play them in order, because the gameplay mechanics improves drastically in every sequel and you definitely won't be able to go back.

Suggested tagline: Grow crops, fight monsters, level up, and plow your waifu.

Sands of Destruction RPG Funny and charming JRPG reminiscent of PS1 era JRPGS, especially Xenogears (in gameplay). This time you're destroying the world rather than saving it. Music and art is really good. Voice acting is good too for the most part, but the pauses between lines can get irritating.

Addendum: Most of the game is spent beating up on furries.

Scribblenauts Platformer / Puzzle Get the Starite.  How do you get the Starite?  By summoning nearly anything (no living people, nothing vulgar, nothing licensed) with your handy dandy notebook.  Fun for everyone for at least an hour, after that it depends on whether you're the sort who'll solve everything with MIND CONTROL DEVICE and LASSO or someone who'll try for new things.  Good for playing in short bursts. Surprisingly full of existing memes. Scribblenauts cover
Super Scribblenauts Platformer / Puzzle If you hated the first Scribblenauts because of its flaws then you'll love this. Controls are SO MUCH BETTER, levels are really awesome to do, and best of all. Not only can you create anything you can think of (except vulgar and vague stuff), but you can modify them using multiple ADJECTIVES. More fun to be had and you can play hours upon hours of the game and NOT EVEN LEAVE THE TITLE SCREEN! 252px-Superscribblenautsboxsmall
Scurge: Hive Isometric Metroidvania A port of the popular GBA title. At heart, it's a traditional sci-fi metroidvania, but with an isometric camera, and an interesting "infection" mechanic that forces you to think carefuly before leaving the safety of each save point. Features everything you would expect, including a badass female protagonist, power suits, multipurpose laser gauntlets, friendly AI's, and overrun research facilities. The platforming, puzzles, and combat are all precise and satisfying, and the game's plot moves at an excellent pace. Scurge hive
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor RPG / Strategy Challenging game with over a hundred demons to recruit into your part. Tons of character customization, but boss battles are ragequit inducing. The battle system is kind of generic and the visuals are lazy, but it shines with a lot of replayability through five different endings which depend on the choices you make during the story. Devil survivor ds
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey RPG Classic Megaten gameplay is back with this marvelous entry in the SMT mainline series. When a mysterious black hole filled with demons appears in the middle of the south pole and threatens to devour the entire earth, it's up to you, your unit of elite soldiers from all over the world, and, most importantly, your own legion of demons to go in and kick ass. What sets this game apart from other RPGs is that random encounters don't have to end in violence. By negotiating with demons, you can obtain money and items and even make them join your own ranks. Your dialog choices also affect your alignment towards law and chaos, which has many effects on the gameplay.

300 races of demons to recruit and many hours of playtime with different endings.

Soma Bringer RPG Diablo with animu characters. Very customizable with many options as to how to build your character. Full translation patch (aside from the glossary you'll never use), look on GBATemp. SomaBringer
Sonic Colors Platformer

The third and final entry of the Sonic DS series, by Dimps as usual. Plays similar to the Sonic Rush games, but Sonic can now stomp, walljump, and use 5 new powerups. Less linear than the Rush games, presenting some new challenges. The soundtrack is very good.

Inferior to the Wii version but still a good game.

Sonic Colors DS
Sonic Rush / Adventure Platformer 2D Sonic games similar to the Advance series. Rush Adventure is a bit weaker than Rush, especially where music is concerned, but it has a number of mini-levels that provide some decent challenges. Both made by Dimps. Sonic-Rush-Hints-XX-DS-2Rushadventure
Soul Bubbles Action / Puzzle Not totally unlike LostWinds on the Wii. In this game, you control a 'spirit herder', someone who saves lost souls by guiding them to salvation (ie: the end of each level). To do this, you collect them in a bubble, and blow the bubble to the end. There are power ups in the form of masks which do various new maneuvers, like trimming the environment for safe passage, or splitting the bubble into smaller bubbles for example. This game is very, very relaxing. If you live in North America, you can only get this game at Toys R Us stores, oddly, but it's priced at 9.99$ 5.99$, so don't hesitate. SoulBubbles
Space Invaders Extreme Shoot 'em Up EXTR3ME SPACE INVADERS FUCK YEAH11! Basically Space Invaders, but set to a rhythm.

Expect some acid tripping and awesome music.

Spaceinvadersextreme
Space Invaders Extreme 2 Shoot 'em Up The slightly improved sequel to Space Invaders Extreme.

The acid tripping keeps going, but this time the Fever Time bonus rounds got updated to be in real time, providing a more dynamic gameplay, also better music than the first one.

Has a moe themed level, for the weeaboo inside you.

Space extreme
Spectral Force Genesis Strategy 40 nations are at war, and you get to pick one. Each turn counts as one in-game month, and each month has a different phase. Invest in your city to attract citizens and troops, strengthen your defenses, invest in trades, scout out for new generals, form alliances or persuade opposing nations into joining you and conquer everyone else. Battles are in real time, with three allied and enemy squads on the map. Unfortunately, it's single-player only.

Don't rely on alliances too much. The computer isn't afraid to attack you when the opportunity arises.

Spider-man Web of Shadows/Spiderman Shattered Dimensions Action / Adventure Can you say Duke Sandwich Metroidvania? Anyway, the good part of both games is that Spider-man really feels like the nimble superhero ninja he is supposed to be, the controls are fluid and webbing around is all kinds of fun. Add to that the special abilities you can find while exploring and you have a good-to-great game. The sequel adds challenges and different modes (Boss Rush, Time Attack) and breaks the game between three characters, so you have to unlock abilities separately. Storywise, the sequel is completely unrelated to the first game, so you don't need to play them in order. Sadly, both games are rather short, but it's fun while it lasts, at least the sequel has challenges to keep you busy after you beat it. Spider-man web of shadv757Shattereddimensions
Suikoden Tierkreis RPG A spin-off of the Suikoden series. You're able to recruit up to 108 members for your party. Artwork is really pretty, but VA is sketchy (theprotagonistsoundslikehehad20cansofredbull).

A Japanese dub/better font patch is highly recommended and makes the game a much better experience. Search gbatemp.net for it.

SuikodenTierkreis
Super Mario 64 DS Platformer It's a port of Super Mario 64, but lets you play as Yoshi, Mario, Wario and Luigi (read: mostly Luigi). Each has their own specialties and abilities as well. Has 150 stars, oh and some mini-games and multiplayer. Controls are dodgy due to the lack of analog control on the DS, but functional if you can get past them; however, if played on the 3DS, the controls are greatly improved by the Circle Pad. 920758 62383 front
Super Princess Peach Platformer Super Mario for girls. Insultingly easy, but has some pretty sprite graphics. Super Princess Peach
Super Robot Taisen OG Saga RPG / Softcore Porn Atlus Monolith Soft game where you play a Space cowboy surrounded by tits. Other than the gratuitous fan service, there is a pretty good battle system. Also has KOS-MOS from Xenosaga and that's always nice. Spd 20090508110203 b
Taiko no Tatsujin DS 1, 2 and 3 Music / Rhythm IT'S LIKE I'M REALLY A DRUMMER! It's in Japanese. Also check out the sequel for more songs and stuff to do. The second sequel adds a story mode to the mix that plays like a RPG. Really, it even has random encounters where you fight with the power of rhythm. Taiko dsTaiko2 cover-400x360Tatsujin 3
Tales of Innocence RPG A fully 3D Tales of on the DS, huzzah. The battle system is similar to Abyss', letting you move around freely. The difficulty spike is crushing, but manageable, and the dungeons can be a little on the bland side. The translation patch is now available. TalesOfInnocence
Tetris DS Puzzle You all know how this works by now, you faggots. Play through tons of 8-bit Nintendo-themed worlds in the main endless mode. Play through twists on the Tetris formula in others. There's even a Balloon Fight-themed touchscreen mode! Hell yes, this could very well be mankind's greatest achievement. Tetris ds pack
Theresia Adventure / Survival Horror A first-person survival horror adventure with an amnesiac protagonist; the story is somewhat better than you'd think. Although it looks great, the endless backtracking through identical corridors and entirely unpredictable, health-sapping traps make it hard to recommend for the impatient. After the first story is finished, a second, much longer tale is unlocked. Theresia
Time Hollow Adventure / Visual Novel You receive a pen that lets you fuck with the past, including preventing accidents. However, just like every other "tamper with the past" plot, everything starts going haywire. A great game, but pretty damn short and linear. Timeholloweurope
Tingle's Balloon Fight DS Platformer If you've ever played Balloon Fight, you know what to expect. Balloon Fight is Nintendo's version of Joust and is arguably better. This version features backgrounds remind you of Wind Waker, and your main character is of course Tingle. Multiplayer (2-4) in this game is a BLAST, especially if you're just looking to waste some quick time, and Balloon Trip mode is surprisingly addictive. This was only released in Japan for their Club Nintendo, but even so, it's not particularly hard to find. Tingle's Balloon Fight DS
Trauma Center: Under the Knife 1 & 2 Sim Operate on mutant viruses. Plot is wacky and over the top, and the gameplay is excellent, incorporating some of the best uses for the DS's touch screen. The sequel is more polished, and has a MUCH more sensible difficulty level (whereas the first gets fucking impossible quite challenging.) Sequel/spinoff/remakes are also on Wii. Surgery where you fight a spider prancing on a patient's heart. Said spider is also on fire. TraumaTraumacenter2
Umihara Kawase Shun Second Edition Kanzenban Platformer / Puzzle Use a rubbery fishing line to get through physics-based puzzle platforming levels of ball-busting difficulty. Contains both the SNES (which is on the recommended SNES games page) and PS games, brand new levels, an extras gallery and it's not a buggy piece of shit like the PSP port. More importantly, Umihara has the biggest chest of any obscure vidya female. Umiharads
Utacchi Music / Rhythm A really fun Rhythm game made by the same people who brought you pop'n Music. Its full of songs from you favorite anime and other weeaboo-related things. But don't think it's as easy as it is cute, because this game can become tough and unforgiving at later levels, especially with the yellow flick notes.

Be sure to get the patchto fix the dead touchscreen issue.

Also, there might be a savegame issue with some flashcarts(the game creates a savfile with an all-cap filename but the rom filename is lower-case); if this happens just manually change the savefile filename to match the ROM filename.

Utacchi
Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume RPG A spin-off of the Valkyrie Profile series in the form of an SRPG with the usual gameplay integrated in. Not as great as the originals, but still fun. It also has an original storyline where you aren't necessarily the good guy. Your actions can change the next chapter, the final boss and the ending. Story can be pretty depressing. Also the English in the game is early modern, which may be awesome or campy depending on your taste. ValkyrieProfile
WarioWare Touched! Minigame / Puzzle Wacky microgames. If you've played WarioWare before, you know what to expect. Utilizes the touchscreen for most of the microgame sets, but for one set in particular the DS' mic is used. Warioware
WarioWare D.I.Y. Minigame / Puzzle It's more of the WarioWare formula we all know and love. This one has a different twist: It comes with a surprisingly deep editor that lets you create your own microgames from scratch! If you can imagine it, you can probably make it (provided you have the necessary drawing skills). So now you can have a microgame where you shoot penis-rockets into a cow's gaping maw (set to the Blue Danube Waltz, of course), if that tickles your fancy. It also lets you upload and share your creations over the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection. If you've ever played Mario Paint, you'll feel right at home. Also includes about 70 pre-made microgames, 100 or so pre-made music tracks, and 20 or so microgames where all you have to do is draw in graphics, and all of these are fully customizable (so you can learn the ropes by editing existing microgames). Aside from an extensive tutorial mode, the premade microgames (which have a mini-story-mode that can be cleared in less than an hour), and a short challenge mode that will teach you further game-making techniques, the single-player is pretty limited, so the longevity of the game is dictated almost entirely by your creativity.

And yes, you can make porn games in this.

Warioware-diy-box
Witch's Wish Adventure / Visual Novel Anon wants to be the little girl, and the little girl wants to be a witch in a town where only the rich can afford to. Not only is it cute, the music is charming and you can use "the story showcases certain social issues in a way that children can understand" as a flimsy excuse. Downsides are limited save points and the American release stripping out nearly all voice acting. Other than that, it's probably the cutest game you'll ever play. 988441 157907 front
The World Ends With You Action / RPG An offbeat action RPG featuring a dual-screen combat system where you must control two characters at once. The plot is refreshingly new for a Square Enix title. Instead of following the tried-and-true formula they generally follow, the plot of TWEWY has some actual thought put into it and really pulls in the player. The game features many setting-appropriate systems like increasing stats depending on how fashionable your clothes are and getting stronger by digesting fast food. The main story is short, but it features additional content. It's experimental and flawed in places, but worth giving a try. TWEWY
Worms: Open Warfare 2 Strategy Classic Worms gameplay adapted for the DS. Open Warfare 2 is recommended over the first installment, as it fixes nearly all of the faults of its predecessor. Plays good, looks good, plenty of weapons and maps to keep things interesting, and has a fair amount of customizability. The multiplayer experience is solid, but the community is rather small, and like many DS games, it can take a while to find a game. Also available on the PSP. Worms open warfare 2 ds boxart
Xenosaga I + II RPG A retelling of the first two episodes of the Xenosaga trilogy for the PS2. The Episode II portion of the game, originally told through Jr.'s perspective, now focuses on Shion. Features new content and some parts of the script that were originally cut from Episode II. It should be noted the entire game uses the battle system from Episode I. It was only released in Nipponland. 925355 61106 front
Yoshi's Island DS Platformer Keeps the same gameplay that made the original Yoshi's Island so great. The blind spot between the two screens can get annoying at times, though. Compared to the original, thisequel has worse music and animation, which is a little odd considering the DS' power over the SNES, but then again it wasn't made by Nintendo. Still a fun romp if you're into Yoshi. Yoshi Island DS

Nintendo DSiWare

DSiWare

The DSiware has gotten better off since its rough start and there's now some great stuff to check out if you're a DSi user. However, if you don't have one yet, you might consider waiting for the 3DS, which WILL have DSiware on it (in addition to "3DSware"). If you can't wait for that, you might buy an XL for your (grand)parents and play it when they're asleep or not looking.

Note: If you're having trouble getting your music creations off of certain apps below, check this handy guide HERE.

  • Addenum: If you haven't heard the news already, DSi owners, 3DS will allow you transfer most of your DSiware (the stuff that won't has to do with wi-fi, and most DSiware wi-fi games are split in quality, so no big loss).

American Popstar: Road to Celebrity Sim / RPG / Rhythm Yeah, I recommended it. Plays like a raising RPG (Princess Maker, Sims, etc.) minus the sexual content plus a rhythm game. Uses DS features well, such as the mic to record a song, and buttons and the touchscreen for performances. The story isn't too shabby either. The only negatives are the lack of songs and you can't take any action back (auto-saving takes place after every one). Other than that, it's worth a shot (if you're man enough). The spiritual sequel, Miami Nights, sucks. Ignore it. Popstar
AiRace Tunnel Arcade / Flight AiRace Tunnel is an arcade-styled game where you navigate your jet through tunnels full of narrow passages and obstacles. The concept is not unlike OutRun, where you aren't "racing", but you are trying to maneuver to get a low time and high score. Pretty decent for 200 points. Protip: The stylus controls suck ass. Switch to D-pad+Buttons ASAP. The true version, AiRace, pretty much makes this a tutorial for that, and costs 800 points, but is much more expansive. Airace
AiRace Racing / Flight "Tunnel" was training for this, the TRUE Airace. You control different flying machines, race on different tracks, and use power-ups and items to take the lead. Rather small, but looks and plays great, and the tracks have hidden shortcuts and mirrored version, which work pretty well. The stylus controls still suck ass, so stay with D-pad+Buttons. If you know others with a DSi, get them on this and multiplayer together, since people are always more fun than AI. Airace full
A Kappa's Trail Puzzle A touching tale of a Kappa who seeks to enter the human world. First, it must brave 16 stages trials, all of which are pretty tough. It's up to you to guide the critter with trails drawn by your stylus. Beware! There's all sorts of enemies who seek to impede its progress. Luckily, you can dig up "mini-kappas", helpful sprites who fulfill various roles, like bridge-making, foe-fighting, snack-finding, and so on. The paintings and journal entries you obtain really make the game, which is already amusing enough. There's also a few mini-games. 500 points masks just how "deep" this game is (underwater, get it?). Kappa's trail
AlphaBounce Arcade / Puzzle A Breakout RPG. Still with me? Good. You explore a grid map. Each grid tile is a generated breakout stage, with GLORIOUS POWER-UPS. But they can also have enemies firing at you, too, so stay sharp and smack 'em with your ball(s). Beating tiles marked with items nets you extra gear to keep and equip, often replicating powerups. There's alot of stages and fun to be had here, and its only 500 Points. Not bad at all! Alphabounce
Animal Puzzle Adventure Puzzle Lead animals to barns (?) with the D-pad. Each animal moves in unison, so you have to make them in the proper formation, using stage elements, to clear the stage. This game does not fuck around, as it's much harder than it lets on. It's like the Duke Nukem of girly animu animal puzzle games (makes much more sense in context). Fuck year. Apa
Army Defender Arcade / Defense / Shoot 'em Up Like a mix between Space Invaders, a typical tower defense, and a dash of Ikaruga. Ration your shots, because you might hit your supply planes (which give dual-color hitting weapons) and your score multipliers are highly important. Points fill a gauge that lets you literally unleash the fucking fury on every enemy onscreen. It also nabs post-round rewards such as cannon upgrades, extra fury usages, and continues. Armydef
Art Style: Aquia Puzzle A curious underwater themed puzzler that involves sliding and matching tiles from different sides. There's a few different modes to play and different cursors to use as well. Each different cursor changes how you'll be sliding tiles around. There's quite a bit of variety to be found here. Art Style Aquia
Art Style: Base 10 Puzzle A curious math game. Involves you connecting numbers in order to form 10. There's different modes here as well. Although the challenge mode is more interesting. Base10
Art Style: Boxlife Puzzle Cut and paste tiles together in order to make cube patterns. Once the pattern is folded into a box, You move on to the next. The challenge in one mode is to make as many boxes out of preset patterns as possible. The other mode involves an endurance against infinite box patterns. This mode lets you get some items to customize your box world. Boxlife
Aura-Aura Climber Puzzle / Arcade Guide Aura-Aura, a lost little star, back to the sky by slingshot-ing him upwards off of asteroids. Similar to those Mario Galaxy puzzles and DK: King of Swing, except you use the D-pad and A (or B) to stretch and slingshot. Surprisingly good, and gets tough quickly. However, its great arcade fun and has two different modes of play. One of the best 200 point games. Aura aura
Bird & Beans/Pyoro Puzzle / Action That critter minigame from the first Warioware. Eat (shoot in 2) falling seeds to prevent them from breaking your bridge and bonking you. Has an alternate version with different point rules that really change things up, so it's like you're getting two games in one. Pyoro
Bomberman Blitz Puzzle / Bomberman(?) Multiplayer Bomberman action that lets you take on wireless competitors locally or go wi-fi and take on the world. Features that same frantic gameplay tied to the Bomberman name. For 500 points, it's pretty much a steal. Bomberblitz
Castle Conqueror RTS Arguably a beginner's RTS. The cute graphics and easy control are rather inviting to a somewhat hard-to-approach genre. Doesn't do anything really new, nor is it as hard as some of the PC classics, but if you're a beginner or just want to take it easy from the harder norms, this will serve you pretty well. The small 500 point price tag doesn't hurt either. Castle conquerer
Cave Story Action / Platformer It's the indie-classic game by Pixel, Cave Story, ported to Nintendo DSi! For those not in the know, this game was created a lone artist, and is famous for it's inspired gameplay and incredible setting. Perfect PC port with some small dual screen extras for 800 points.

Keep in mind this is not the only portable Cave Story Solution, homebrew versions of cave story also exist on PSP and GP2X.

CavestoryDSI
Castle of Magic Platformer This game takes aspects from several successful platformers and utilizes them quite well. A neat optional feature lets you snap pics using the DSi camera at booths in stages and get powerups based on the prominent color of the pic. It's abit on the short and easy side, which makes it great for beginners to platforming and a nice nostalgic breeze through for veteran retro-buffs. Castlemagic
Chronos Twins Platformer Controls akin to Megaman X, only you control two versions of yourself on two screens simultaneously. Plenty of puzzles that require one screen doing something that effects the other. Very cool and 500 points less than the WiiWare version, which is just larger and has some minor 3DCG. Chronos
Crystal Monsters RPG / Monster Sim "Holy Blatant Ripoff, Batman!" Yes, it is (This is by Gameloft, after all). But, it actually plays rather well. There's TIMED HITS for starters, plus side-quests, monster fusion, 3 on 3, fairly tough bosses, and quite a lot of content for the 500 point price tag. It won't blow anybody away as the next big craze, but all things considered, it's not bad at all. Just be sure to drag your MC around with the stylus as he seems to fuck up turning when using the D-pad (it was originally a Japan-only mobile game, after all). Not recommended as an intro to the genre, as it's more of a coffee-break sort of game. Crystal monsters
Dark Void Zero Platformer Control Rusty, a Rocketman-esque hero guided by Nikola Tesla, as you attempt to save Earth from an extra-terrestrial threat. Has classic arcade style platforming and the dual-setting jetpack controls very nicely. Large stages are filled with weapons, power-ups, and enemies to use them on. If you're looking for something to spend your spare 500 points on, consider this port of an NES port of an arcade game that never existed. There's also a Steam port that has 2 extra endings. Dark void zero
Dragon's Lair Arcade / FMV Dirk the Daring is back and ready to take on Dragon's Lair once more! This revolves around picking actions to do and responding to various elements in game. This has punishing difficulty, but also hilarious death sequences. The resolution quality took a slight hit in the port, but it's still as close as can be. Best of all, unlike say, the iPhone version, there's ZERO load times. If you like this, check out Space Ace, a similar classic by the same team. Dragon's lair
Dragon Quest Wars Strategy Select a group of 4 monsters from 6 (duplicates optional). Each one has different abilities and properties. The interaction of physical and magical skills, along with reactions, really puts a lot of strategy in this seemingly simple title. Has a short tutorial mode, but the real meat is the Wi-Fi, which lets you battle people from all over the place, and wireless, which lets you take on people locally. Both run extremely smooth. Bears slight resemblances to Advance Wars, but plays a bit differently. Dqwarse08
Earthworm Jim Platformer Jim is back (Again!)! This time on a portable with BUTTONS and a D-pad. A port of the iPhone remix, which also has a newer EASY MODO (Don't be a worm, now.) with a weird DSi-exclusive extra where mimicing Jim's facial expressions for the camera earns you some small bonuses. This lacks all the HD Console-variant extras though, but hey, it is portable Jim that doesn't suck (which is more than could be said for some of the past GB/GBC/GBA efforts...)! Jim dsi
Elemental Masters Strategy / Card Think "Eye of Judgement lite" meets tug-o-war. Both players pick 5 cards and try to dominate the field with them to win. Each card has 4 power #s for each side and an element. Higher #'s over your enemy's card will let you "possess" it, and let it count for your domination. Like EoJ, there are fields to (de)buff your cards' powers. There are also spells to let you further mix things up. Includes a decent story mode, alot of cards, and multiplayer. No wi-fi (?), so have a buddy to duel before buying. Elementalm
Escapee GO! Stealth A game concentrating entirely on stealth. You aren't a fighter, so running away is your only option. However, you can find power-ups for to buff yourself (such as speed-up) or mess with enemies (such as slow-motion). Also has a multiplayer mode where one player hunts down the others playing. Pretty good for 200 points. Escapee go
Flametail Arcade / Puzzle You remember the square game from Maboshi Arcade on Wiiware? No? Well, don't worry. This is basically that, improved and expanded. Now you have powerups and a score counter to make up for the lack of people fucking with you like in Maboshi (or vice versa). For 500 points, it's a good deal, and still worth it even if you bought Maboshi on the Wii. tl;dr: DON'T LET THOSE BLOCKS HIT THE LINE. Flametail
Flipnote Studio Drawing App Make drawings and animations, watch animations of other people online, upload your own stuff as well (requires a computer for a few more functions), or if nothing more, write a some handy notes for yourself. A bit basic, but it's FREE and gets the job done quite well. Your mileage depends on how much effort you put into your flipnotes.Compare THIS to well... this Flipnote
G.G. Series: Dark Spirits Shoot 'em up A curious shmup. You start out with 4 options, which due the firing for you. That said, you can actually change them individually! Grab the power ups with an option and change its shot type. Grabbing another of the same type powers it up further. Like most G.G. games, there's an arcade-like nature to this. You have a life meter, and while you can heal with an occasional found power-up, hitting zero means game over! You can also change shot patterns to shoot in different ways. Even though the handful of stages repeat, enemy formations change with each repeat, and each boss will have an all new attack pattern! Drop down 200 points and get ready for some ghastly fun.
G.G. Series: Horizontal Bar Platformer/Puzzle? A strange platformer revolving around spinning, flipping, and jumping from bars scattered in stages to reach an exit. Momentum is KEY to your victory. Carefully timing your lift-offs from spinning positions spells the difference between success and rage-quit. The stages get harder quite quickly, and a number of them are made to be played perfectly for a perfect score (you can still do well enough without that score though). Getting coins, avoiding deadly obstacles, and dealing with time limits, who knew grid people had it so tough? Although this won't appeal to everyone, 200 points is a fair offer to try yourself or get someone else to give it a shot for you.
G.G. Series: Ninja Karakuri Den Arcade / Platformer First off, the G.G./Go Series games are not "full featured" games. They're more like modern day "Game and Watch" titles. That said, they're all pretty entertaining and great for quick burst vidya sessions and high score seekers. Generally each goes for 200 points, making them low on price, high on fun!

This title in particular is a ninja based puzzler. Collect coins, beat enemies, break gears, reach the exit, don't fall. and that's it. The action is occasionally mixed up with mini-boss fights, which are nice bonus levels. Like G&W games, there's no continues, though you get extra lives with good scores. Protip: Read the help guide to learn about some neat little tricks that aren't immediately obvious.

Gg karakuri ninja
G.G. Series: Super Hero OGRE Arcade / Beat 'em Up Another in the G.G./Go Series. You play a wannabe Kamen Rider beating up palette swap crooks with a variety of normal, "Hero", and "Super Hero" attacks. If you're a fan of juggling and combos, you'll get a kick out of this. The challenge here is creating as large a stream of combos as you can without messing up, carefully balancing move selections. If your life empties, it's game over, so OGRE Shield and sap life from foes! Stylish 200 Point Action!Protip: Once again, reading the Help guide helps. Also, check this video out for an idea of how groovy your combo skills can get. Has a sequel, which is alot better, but, sadly, it hasn't RIDER KICK'd its way out of Japan yet. Gg ogre
Glory Days: Tactical Defense RTS/Tower Defense Made by the Pop Island team. Guard your base from enemy attack by placing artillery units around the map. Getting money comes from your successful enemy kills, so place carefully. Curiously, unlike most RTS games which use a pointer to place units, this one uses a rotating cube, which speeds up/slows down based on terrain. Curious, but it works, and encourages fast thinking. Not the best RTS/Defense game in the world, but it is a damn good one. For 200 points, it's not too shabby to start off with either!
Glow Artisan Puzzle Has concepts similar to picross, but you're trying to match your lite-brite looking grid to the one shown in the top screen. You do so by filling, mixing, and deleting blocks of colors by filling in rows or columns of varying lengths. Even though it comes preloaded with several puzzles, you can actually use YOUR OWN PICS saved on the DSi (-OR- snap one at whim) as basis for puzzles, and you can even edit puzzles you make to be harder or easier. The potential is literally limitless, all for 500 points. Note: Are you color-blind? Well, don't worry, because it even has a color-blind mode! Glow artisan
Go Series: 10 Second run Arcade / Platformer / Puzzle Another light G.G./Go Series game. Features 50 short burst mini-stages to be completed in 10 seconds or less. Sounds easy, but after the 5th or so, they start to be get tougher and trickier, meaning you have to make some good guesses to land gaps and avoid hazards. The two main modes are beating a stage in 10 seconds or trying to marathon through all 50 as fast as possible through an ever-ticking timer.

Can you conquer both as fast and flawless as possible? If you're ready, slap down 200 points and get running!

Gg 10 second run
Go Series: Defense Wars Arcade / Defense Another G.G./Go-goer, this one takes Tower Defense and mixes it up abit. You must fend off invaders from destroying your "Base Cannon". Sounds standard? Here's the twist, you control your units' fire with the strokes of your stylus. You must wisely use cannons to aim and take out foes as they have limited ammo, unlike the infinite "base". However, when you select one unit type, you control them all, which makes defending easier. Beware though, as your units are cannot be moved or replaced once the stage starts! You use what you've got! It's only 20 stages, but there's pretty good fun to have for 200 points. Gg defense
Go Series: Earth Saver Puzzle Aww shit, yo. There's meteors about to crash into earth! Thankfully, you, the brave space-hero, have plenty of bombs to destroy them before they impact. Run around along the rock's cracks and plant bombs to blast apart pieces from it. That said, if chunks blasted off exceed a certain weight, they can't burn up in the atmosphere and damage the earth anyway! Also, you're being timed. Also, you can be killed by alien lifeforms before you blow up the meteor. Oddly enough, this game's as fun as it is rage-inducing, especially on higher difficulties. And don't even get me started on that Endless Mode! 500 points is a fair deal for a game with a lot of replayability.
Ivy the Kiwi: Mini Puzzle Ivy is a little kiwi you sets off to find her missing mother. Unfortunately, as a young hatchling, she needs you to guide and protect her. Very easy and simple, and the learning curve and difficulty level somehow makes the game fun for kids and adults alike. Very sweet, and beautiful. Note: Don't worry about missing out on story, for this has the entire 50 level story mode on it! Sadly, it doesn't have the 50 bonus levels and multiplayer of the full releases. Considering its only 500 points, that's still a pretty good deal. Request: Please actually buy this game, not just for the devs, but to also support the official Save the Kiwi foundation. Help our animal friends! Ivy kiwi mini
Legends of Exidia Action RPG A port of Might and Magic II for mobile phones. Not too shabby for a "lite" Action RPG. Has a few exploits to find that make the game ridiculously easy; but, it also has a few legitimately difficult segments as well. A bit stiff on the control, but it has pretty good action and it is a game nowadays that isn't afraid to kick your ass. Consider it if you have 800 spare points. Legends exidia
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! Puzzle More streamlined than the first DS release, but it's mostly for the best. It's also more accessible to left handed people now. Plays similar to Lemmings, except you touch objects and obstacles to keep your Mini-Marios safe as they reach the exit. The base game has about 100 levels, but has a construction mode to upload, download (up to about 120), and play customized stages for free. One of the DSi's best offerings. Surprisingly fun and accessible, even to those who aren't into this sort of genre. If you bought the original release on DS, you get shop channel points back. Has a spiritual sequel in the full DS game, "Mario vs. Donkey Kong Mini-Land Mayhem", which uses similar controls, plus new extra stages and contests online! MarioDK
Mighty Flip Champs! Dual Screen Puzzle Made by the company who made Shantae and LIT. This is about flipping between different screens in order to reach an exit. You can't jump, which might appeal to fans of Solomon's Key and Fire n' Ice. It's hard to grasp without visuals, so here's a video Addenum: Shantae: Risky's Revenge below gets multiple gem bonuses from your progress in MFC! Even after you've gotten one bonus, you can keep on jammin' in MFC to get even more. Very nice combo for a 2000 point card. Flip
Mighty Milky Way Gravity Puzzler WayForward's third and presumably final DSiWare game. This spiritual sequel to MFC pits French-speaking, green alien cutie Luna on an unknown mission throughout the Cosmos. To accomplish this feat, however, she needs the help of her trusty scepter, which allows her to "pulse" and create planets, and use their gravitational pull to reach the Goal Portal at the end of each level. Difficulty curve is a higher than MFC's (excluding Time Bomb Mode). Arguably sports the best OST out of all 3 WayF DSiWare games. BONUS: The OST for this and Flip Champs is available on Virt's official site for free (or with kindly donations). Mighty
Mr. Driller: Drill Till You Drop! Puzzle / Arcade "MISTAH DURIRAH!" If that isn't familiar, then buy this right now. Mr. Driller is a simple 3-point concept: drill downward to the goal, keep your O2 up, and chain combo color blocks to rack up points. This includes 3 different modes: Mission (standard goal-crossing), Time Attack (goal as quickly as you can), and (FINALLY!) Dristone, a cool mode that has item-like "Dristones" which have special effects. For 500 points, this is a great time-driller for Mr.Driller vets and beginners. Mr driller dristone
Oregon Trail, The Sim / Minigame AW YEAH. YOU KNOW YOU REMEBER THIS. WELL IT'S BACK. GO HUNTING, DIE FROM DYSENTERY, GET TO OREGON. Amusingly less serious, and more sarcastic, cartoony, and humourous than ever. Considering how much this used to go for, 800 points is hardly nothing. And you can FORD THAT RIVER whenever, wherever! The oregon trail dsi
Paperplane Puzzle / Flight That paper plane minigame from the first Warioware. Starts easy, but gets challenging to keep up for a while. Good for chilling out or when you want something quick to take on. Features 3 different modes: Endless (shoot for a high score) , Time Attack (shoot for a low time), and race (which lets you race using a single DSi, pretty tricky, but it works). Paperplane
Photo Dojo Fighting / Other At 200 points, you can't expect much depth out of this. However, if you're looking for plain goofy fun in this would-be spinoff to Smash Bros' simple play-control, look no further. Add yourself and/or others as fighters, use different photos as backgrounds, record your voices to call your attacks, and put in damn near whatever you want as projectiles. Photo dojo
PiCTOBiTS Puzzle Touch based puzzler involving falling rows, squares, and columns of different colors and using respective pictobits to clear them out. This eventually forms pictures on the top screen, thus beating the stage. Has remixes of old NES game songs from a cool retro band, YMCK, while you play. You can also use coins you get in-game to buy the songs to jam out to or buy "dark" stages, which are damn tough extra puzzles to take on. Highly recommended for old-schoolers, puzzle buffs, and retro fans alike. Pictobits
Pinball Pulse: The Ancients Beckon Pinball This Ancient Greek-themed pinball game is about as close to real pinball as you can get. The physics are spot on, there are LED displays, and scoring events that take place. Sadly, like a real machine, there's only one table. On the bright side, this was made by the team that worked on Metroid Prime: Pinball, which assures you're getting a quality pinball title. Pinball pulse
Pop Island: Paperfield Capture the Flag Cute little block critters play capture the flag on a variety of maps. Different characters have different attributes, such as the penguin, who surfs speedily on water, but slows to a crawl on land. Use firecrackers to knock a rival far away and make it drop its flag (if it's holding one). For local multiplayer, you can send at demo version to a friend if they don't have it and take them on. A great deal for 200 points. Note: The original Pop Island costs 800 points, but unlocks extra tracks and vehicles in this game. If you had the original, get this as a nice bonus. If you didn't buy the original, you might as well just stick with Paperfield. Popisland
Precipice Adventure / Puzzle Takes some elements from Intelligence Qube (overcoming cubes and bombs, along with your decreasing playfield) and tower climbing games. It also has a decreasing energy meter to add challenge (think Adventure Island).  Much harder than it lets on at first. Precipice
Rabi Laby Puzzle/Platformer A curious puzzle platformer where you switch between controlling a girl, Alice, and a rabbit, Raby. The stages revolve around using the abilities of each character and helping Alice exit the stage. Raby is magic, so he can be left behind, and sometimes puzzles even have you killing him (with a cute magical "pop!") in order to exit the stage. The stages start easy but get quite tough at the third set of levels. 500 points is quite the fair deal for this whimsical puzzler.
Rayman Platformer It's Rayman, and it's out on the DSiWare store RIGHT NOW for 800 points. Do you not have it already after reading this sentence? THEN GET IT NOW, IT'S FUCKING RAYMAN. Updates include a touchscreen map, time challenge bonuses, and a checkpoint surprise (Smile!). Updated port of the GBA version with far better music and better res for more onscreen. Rayman dsi
Rhythm Core Alpha Music Makin' App Not quite as stylish as Korg DS-10. However, it does things a bit differently than the Korg, and sometimes a little better. The interface may make things a little harder or easier to manage depending on your experience. Still pretty good considering the low 500 point price, and there's quite a bit to do with it.

You can check out more about this, along with some performances at the official site HERE.

Rhythm core alpha
Robot Rescue Puzzle Plays like Animal Puzzle Adventure mentioned above, but with robots and conveyor belts instead of puppies and cuteness. It's arguably also a bit easier, as this is reaction-based at times vs pure "hard-thinkan". At 200 points, you might consider this as a cheaper and slightly easier alternative/compliment to APA. Both are still pretty fun and worth the cash. Robot rescue
Rytmik Music Makin' App A bit more streamlined than Korg and Rhythm Core Alpha, but much more accessible to say the least. While the concentration here is a bit more loop and sample centric than the others, the fact that you can stack channels in loops and then custom loops on loops gives a lot of opportunity to the creative. The large variety of instruments helps too. Rytmik: Rock Edition and Hip Hop King uses different sound fonts. All 3 are great, and if you can use them, get all 3. If you just want to try it, get the one of your choice, probably this one. More info and sound demos at the official site HERE. Rytmik002
Rytmik: Rock Edition Music Makin' App Compliment and "sequel" to the first Rytmik. While that one was more beats and groovy, this is more rock and jammin'. Using different instruments, along with the new Vari tool, there's good tunes to be made, so get composing! If you get the original after this, just be aware of the lack of Vari tool in that. Only 200 points in the US as an apology for the long delay of both Rytmiks. Sorry PAL pals, but we win some and lose some on both sides of the pond... As like before, more info and demos at the official website HERE. Rytmik002
Rytmik: Hip Hop King Music Makin' App Yet another Rytmik remix. Still 800 points, and still kickass. Sadly, this is currently only available in PAL territories. That said, this time around it features: drums, percussions, bass, some melodic instruments and scratches; AND has a new "Twist" option, which reverses samples on any channel it is applied to, allowing some neat possibilities. Once again, more info and demos at the official website HERE. Rytmik002
Shantae: Risky's Revenge Platform HANDS DOWN THE BEST ORIGINAL DSiWARE GAME YOU CAN GET. Sequel to the criminally under-appreciated GBC game. A platformer where you play a sexy belly-dancing Genie Girl opposing her rival, an equally sexy pirate lady. The sprites are gorgeously animated, the music is all kinds of pure sweetness from series vet, Jake Kaufman/"Virt", and the action is incredible considering the medium and block size. If there is ONE game you are going to buy from the DSi Shop, let it be this one. Addenum: Not mandatory, but Mighty Flip Champs above gives you multiple gem bonuses in this from your MFC progress! Even after you've gotten one bonus, you can keep on jammin' in MFC to get even more. Very nice combo for a 2000 point card. BONUS: Like the music? You can pay what you want for the soundtrack or even get it for free, both officially at Virt's official site. Though he kindly requests you also buy the game eventually while you're at it! Shantae riskys revenge-21
Snapdots Puzzle Remember Guru Logic Champ? On the Game_Boy_Advance? Badass Manly Ducks? No? Well, this is basically the same thing, but with a quirky pink hair girl and her UFO instead. For all not in the know, it's a little like picross. The puzzle lies in shooting blocks up from the bottom row and to getting them to form the picture. This requires L or R shoulder buttons to spin the puzzle in 90 degree increments to get to the spots you can't reach. Starts off easy, but can get tough quickly. Not as hard as Guru Logic Champ, but some puzzles are real head-scratchers. Over 100 stages for 500 points is a sugar sweet deal. R.I.P. Badass Manly Ducks. Snapdots
Soul of Darkness Action-Adventure A level-based Metroidvania that totally rips off Castlevania, but it's okay because it's a good thing. Focuses on upgrading your weapons (a fire sword and an ice spear) and some neat gameplay twists. Combines levels, exploration, and difficulty for a sweet mix of new and old. A steal at 500 pts. SoulOfDarkness
Spotto! Puzzle Nintendo and IS made a new badass manly duck puzzle game. Spotto kills ghosts by lobbing bombs in their mouths, exploding them to bits. You aim by spinning a touch-screen wheel, with surprisingly precise results. The setting is a haunted mansion full of floating stuff to fuck up your aim, so get your math on. 50 puzzles, a hard mode, and a challenge mode, all for 200 points. Spotto
Tetris Party Live Puzzle / Tetris Blocks, lines, etc. You know the drill. What's cool about this is the different modes and options to adjust matches. It's obviously downscaled from the 1200 point Wiiware release, sure, but even at 500 points, it has online multiplayer against strangers or your pals with friend codes and this DSi release and it even has Microphone chat. There's no local multiplayer, although you play the CPU, and also solo while waiting for online matches to go through.

Bottom Line (lol): It's great if you love to play Tetris and "showing them online" or just want to play Tetris without carrying extra game cards around.

Tetris dsiware
Zengage Puzzle Sliding puzzles that involve matching colors. Think along the lines of a Rubik's cube, but with more variety in final solutions. Zengage
