The List

Boxart Name Genre Description
Ace Combat 3 Electrosphere (PAL) Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere (JP) Flight Simulator/Arcade 3rd installment in the Ace combat series. The American release lacks the animated cutscenes and the story of the JP version. The Japanese release consists of 2 CD's of Ace Combat goodness with animation (and some aircraft design) done by Production IG, multiple characters, branching storylines, 5 different endings and has the only Ace Combat mission that takes place in outer space.
7-1-1- Ace Combat 2 Flight Simulator/Arcade Second installment in the Ace Combat franchise. A huge improvement over Air Combat, especially for what regards graphics and gameplay.
Air Combat (PAL) Air Combat Flight Simulator/Arcade The first Ace Combat game. The name was changed for America.
Alundra (PAL) Alundra Action/Adventure Made by the team who made Landstalker for the Genesis/Mega Drive. Features similar elements of adventure and puzzling. A great 2D Zelda clone with a more mature storyline. Stay away from the sequel though.
Ape Escape Ape Escape Action/Adventure You catch cartoony monkeys, but it's a lot more fun than it sounds. Each of the monkeys have different AI. You also have several gadgets to help you wrangle them all. It's a surprisingly entertaining game, but the sequels are better.
Arc The Lad 1 (JP) Arc The Lad RPG A group of kids that beat the fuck out of adults with swords and musical instruments
Arc The Lad 2 (JP) Arc The Lad 2 RPG sequel and rehash of the above
Arc The Lad 3 (JP) Arc The Lad 3 RPG another sequel another rehash.
Armored Core (PAL) Armored Core Action/Adventure Take your mecha out there to blow up stuff and earn money to build better mecha parts to blow even more stuff. Lots of customization.
Armored Core Master of Arena Armored Core: Master of Arena Action/Adventure same as below
Armored Core Project Phantasma Armored Core: Project Phantasma Action/Adventure A sort of expansion to Armored Core, with new parts, new missions, and an Arena system.
Army Men Air Attack (PAL) Army Men: Air Attack Action/Adventure Army Men.. yea you know shit's goin' down!
Azure Dreams (PAL) Azure Dreams RPG Think Pokémon meets Harvest Moon with dungeon-crawlan. The gameplay follows a simple pattern. Climb the tower as high as you and your monster companions can handle, and escape. You will always stay the same level, but the stronger your monsters become, the higher up the tower you can climb each time and get better loot as a result. Use any resources you've gathered to expand and improve your home and the town around it each day. Boning the neighborhood girls is your side-quest here.
Bishi Bashi Special (JP) Bishi Bashi Special Minigames Tons of crazy mini-games, including shaking a can into outer space or disco-dancing to make your afro-hair grow. Awesome.
Bloody Roar 2 (PAL) Bloody Roar 2 Fighting Fairly typical fighting game except that all characters can transform into a super-powered 'Beast Mode', allowing special attacks. (Note for pirates: it can do widescreen, if you use it on your PSP.)
Brave Fencer Musashi (PAL) Brave Fencer Musashi Action/Adventure An Action/Adventure game with RPG elements. Has a unique premise that lets you learn the moves of your enemies (but you can only use one at a time) in order to solve puzzles, gain different attributes, or tear through enemies with ease. You also learn battle techniques (you can always use all of these that you've learned) from people you save throughout the game. There are also in-game action figures to collect.
Breath of Fire 3 (PAL) Breath of Fire 3 RPG The third in the solid (and now dead) RPG series from Capcom. You can pick up and play this even if you never played 1 or 2. A little slow paced, but if you like classic RPGs and dragons, this might be the game for you. Later in the game you can "splice" your own dragon creations for battle.
Breath of Fire 4 (PAL Breath of Fire 4 RPG Last of the traditional BoF games. You'll find it has a little better pacing than BoF3, and the Fou-Lu missions are a blast. Made on the same game engine as 3, so if you hated that, don't bother with this.
Bushido Blade Bushido Blade Fighting An attempt at creating a sword fighting sim. Does fairly well, it veers from traditional fighters in that many attacks are one hit kills. You can also cripple your opponent by attacking their arms or legs.
Capcom vs. SNK Pro (PAL) Capcom vs. SNK Pro Fighting Created by Capcom, a 4 button fighting game where characters from both companies duke it out, has an exceptional soundtrack, and you can use the "original" bgm for some characters like the Art of Fighting crew or Fatal Fury, same on the Capcom side. A must try if you haven't yet.
Castlevania Symphony of the Night (PAL) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Platformer

Some would say this game perfected the Metroidvania/Castleroid style of gameplay. Something's up in Dracula's Castle and it's up to his son Alucard to investigate. Very fun but it gets laughably easy towards the end.

First game in the Castlevania series to drop the run'n'whip and copy Metroid instead.

Chocobo Racing (PAL) Chocobo Racing Racing This game was a shameless advertisement for Chocobo's Dungeon 2, but it is surprisingly fun for a knock-off kart racer.
Chocobo's Dungeon 2 Chocobo's Dungeon 2 RPG Chocobo's Dungeon 2 is a surprisingly decent roguelike. You traverse dungeons, find items to increase your strength, and magic books to cast spells. The game can get a little repetitive, but trudging through the dungeons to get to the bosses is also mildly addicting.
Chrono Cross Chrono Cross RPG There is a very mixed reception to this game from fans of Chrono Trigger. The storyline is sadly quite convoluted and absurd. There are also several arguably unnecessary characters. On the other hand, there are also very charming characters. The gameplay features a lot of things meant to relieve the tediousness of your average role playing games. There is virtually no grinding in this game, for instance, as characters don't really level up in typical fashion.
Clock Tower Clock Tower Survival Horror Port of the snes game.
Colony Wars (PAL) Colony Wars Other Hop into the cockpit as you wage war against the savage Earth Empire and its Colonial Navy, and stop its regime of oppression, as a pilot of the League of Free Worlds in this epic two-disc space shooter. With over 70 missions, multiple mission paths and endings, there are so many ways the war can turn: each mission can make a difference.
Colony Wars Vengeance Colony Wars: Vengeance Other Follow the story of Mertens, a pilot in the Colonial Navy, during his struggle against the League of Free Worlds, in this sequel to the first Colony Wars game. With craft upgrades and ground-based missions, Colony Wars: Vengeance adds more variety to the Colony Wars game series.
Command And Conquer Command And Conquer Strategy A somewhat arcade-ish RTS, but very fun nonetheless. And Kane rules KANE LIVES!
Command And Conquer Red Alert Command And Conquer: Red Alert Strategy A "what if" RTS game where you choose one side, either Allied or Soviet forces, to march on and conquer your enemies.
Crash Bandicoot (PAL) Crash Bandicoot Platformer Brilliant platformer. If you haven't played this, go play it now.
Crash Bandicoot 2 Cortex Strikes Back (PAL) Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back Platformer Better than the first. Tons of fun.
Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped (PAL) Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped Platformer About equally as good as the second. Play this shit. Last good one before Naughty Dog dumped it and left it to rot with other developers.
Crash Team Racing (PAL) Crash Team Racing Racing The single greatest racing game ever made. If you haven't played CTR, stop gaming immediately. Blatant copy of Mario Kart, but hey, it's just as good, so who cares?
Croc Legend of the Gobbos (PAL) Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Platformer Fully 3D, roaming platformer. Gameplay wise, this is as solid as Mario 64. Also on saturn and PC. sequel is ok.
Darkstalkers 3 (PAL) Darkstalkers 3 Fighting Think Street Fighter with characters from horror films. And sexy succubus.
Dead or Alive Dead or Alive Fighting Tekken clone with a few good ideas and a larger bustline. Saturn original is better but Japan only.
Digimon World (PAL) Digimon World RPG Digimon World was an extremely underrated game of its time. Essentially, the game amounted to Tamagotchi with a lot of exploration. The "Digimon World" was a huge land with tons of secrets. The goal of the game was to recruit Digimon to revive File City. Although a bit unforgivingly difficult at first, once you started recruiting some Digimon, the game was extremely addicting.
Dino Crisis (PAL) Dino Crisis Survival Horror An interesting twist on the survival horror genre from Capcom. Resident Evil + Dinosaurs = Profit. A great game, at least on par with RE1.
Driver (PAL) Driver Racing Fantastic driving (duh) game, focuses more on dramatic inner city getaways/pursuits than simple racing. This game is probably the closest you'll get to recreating the awesomeness of that one chase scene from Bullitt. PROTIP: Get the PC version if you can, it looks much better. Sequels went downhill fast!
Einhänder Einhänder Shooter What's this? A shooter made by SQUARESOFT? And it's actually really good? Well damn. Also INCREDIBLY rare these days.
Ffviibox Final Fantasy 7 RPG Final Fantasy set in a world of magic and technology, where you play as a group of rebels against an evil corporation. Pretty good story with a few twists, bad 3D, and a system similar to FFVI's Espers.
Final Fantasy 8 ntsc-front Final Fantasy 8 RPG Final Fantasy with a great emphasis on love aspect of the story, immersive world, all characters likable except for the main two. Junction system and anti-grind level scaling are like-dislike aspects.
Ffixbox Final Fantasy 9 RPG A back-to-the-roots Final Fantasy, returning to a medieval world with a lighthearted protagonist. Features less character customization but more specialization and a more fantastical style.
FFAnthology Final Fantasy Anthology RPG A collection of Final Fantasy V and VI with some new features and cutscenes. Was the first time V released in the USA with an authentic translation.
FFChron Final Fantasy Chronicles RPG A collection of Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger ome new features and cutscenes. Get ready for shitty, 15-second-loading-times for battles in Chrono Trigger. The DS version is pretty much the PSX version with instant load times and a few new features, so that is the recommended choice if you're going to play CT. However, this is probably the best release of FF4 (other than the remake on the DS, unless you can't tolerate blocky 3D).
Final Fantasy Origins -U--front Final Fantasy Origins RPG A collection of Final Fantasy I and II. Has redone graphics and some new features.
Fftbox Final Fantasy Tactics Strategy A story of politics, religions, class and gods, told by an old historian, wrapped around deep tactical gameplay, a varied class system, and some very funny names. Ported to PSP.
Front Mission 3 Front Mission 3 Strategy Futuristic robot turn based strategy based off the Final Fantasy Tactics engine, but with a faster pace. Each wanzer (robot) can be customized with different parts which can teach the pilot various skills. Two storylines are available, also features a comprehensive in game internet.
Future Cop LAPD Future Cop LAPD Action/Adventure Action packed third person shooter. Great 2 player modes including co-op. An absolute must-play in the PS1 library.
Gekido Gekido Action/Beat 'em up A beat 'em up with a lot of playable characters in the style of Power Stone, can be played by 2 to 4 players, it's a full 3d game and looks very nice despite being on the PS1, story mode on the game is also well done, you also have paths to choose that lead to new unlockable characters and so, great game to play with bro's.
Ghost Ghost in the Shell Action/Adventure 3rd person action game, you control a Fuchikoma Tank that can even walk on walls, the cutscenes don't fuck around with the gameplay (you can just skip them if they annoy you) and it varies from explore/kill to meeting requirements as kill X targets in X time, or Rail shooting missions
Gradius gaiden-cover Gradius Gaiden Shooter Arguably the best Gradius title ever. Choose from 4 different ships in single player or 2-player co-op as you traverse various unique locales with a pumping upbeat soundtrack.
Granturismo1 Gran Turismo Racing The start of one of the best racing series for Sony. Realistic drivan ahoy. Also on Dreamcast (Bleemed)
Granturismo2 Gran Turismo 2 Racing See Gran Turismo with some improvements and whatnot.
Grandia Grandia RPG Fun JRPG with a lighthearted story and a great battle system. Very linear and voice-acting sucks, but great nontheless. Bad port of the original Saturn version. Sequel is amazing though, on Dreamcast and ps2/pc (both fucked)
Guilty gear Guilty Gear Fighting First installment of the series, has an amazing soundtrack on par with the sequels, air dashes, overdrives and instant kills featured as well like in the successors.
Heart-of-darkness-playstation-front Heart of Darkness Platformer Fantastic cinematic platformer by Eric Chahi, creator of Another World/Out Of This World. You can expect similar gameplay in this one, with treacherous and unfair deaths waiting around every corner. The story is much less grave than Another World, centering around some happy-go-lucky kid whose homemade transportation device takes him to another dimension or some shit. You do still get to watch him die in many grisly and beautifully animated ways, though.
Hogs Hogs of War Strategy

Hogs of War is sort of like Worms, albeit in 3D. It is a pretty funny game. The pigs all have silly names and voices. You can play as pigs from an assortment of different nations. Over the course of the game, you can also customize how you would like to improve your squadron of swine.

Sequel on Wii sometime 2010.

Jojo Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Fighting

Made by Capcom, quite possibly the best manga-based fightan of all time. Based on the Stardust Crusaders arc from the manga and features interesting fighting mechanics. Extremely combo heavy. A better version is available on Dreamcast.

Jumping flash front Jumping Flash Platformer 1st person platformer game where you play a robotic rabbit jumping on shit. Crazy.
Jumping flash 2 front Jumping Flash 2 Platformer Much like the first game. Crazier.
Klonoa Klonoa: Door to Phantomile Platformer

Play as a weird looking rabbit thing wearing a Pac-Man hat. Jump around, collect shit, and get to the end of the level. It's a very generic platformer but the storyline has a lot of heart.

Updated on wii.

Legacyofkainblood Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen Action/Adventure/Being a Badass A more story-focused 2D Zelda-clone. You play as Kain, a knight turned into a vampire, and travel the lands of Nosgoth in search for vengeance. Great storyline, and the first in the Legacy of Kain series.
Legacyofkainsoul Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Action/Adventure

The next chapter in the Legacy of Kain saga. This time you play as Raziel, one of Kain's followers who is betrayed by his master. It's also in full 3D now. As usual, great storyline and voice acting.

also on Dreamcast with better graphics and such.

Legend Of Legaia ntsc-front Legend of Legaia RPG The world has been covered in evil mist, and it's up to you to go from town to town figuring out ways to push it back and ultimately, destroy the Mist Generators in each region. A beautiful 3D RPG with lots of great extras, and a wonderful fighter-like combat system. Definitely give it a shot.
Legendofmana Legend of Mana RPG Atmosphere, the game. Another way of describing it is Side Quests the game, almost all the quests feel like side quests and contribute to the main story while usually leading you to the

ending all without you knowing it.

Lemmings Lemmings Strategy It's fucking Lemmings, if I have to say more you need to get off your ass and play Lemmings. Not as good as the Pc version(s) but still worth a play.
Lego racers Lego Racers Racing Built and race shit Pc version is better.
Lunarsilverstarstoryntsnq6 Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete RPG A classic RPG with a solid plot if you can get past the grind factor. This is the game they made fast-forward on emulators for. Everything is improved for the better from the Sega CD original.

Second Opinion: You don't have to grind at ALL in this game - it's just going to be challenging. You grind in this game if you're too pussy to learn how to conserve MP for the boss. Bosses level up with you, so grinding won't help you much for those, except for the new moves you might know at a higher level.

Marvel Vs Capcom ntsc-front Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting The prequel to Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on Dreamcast. Not as good... But still good. The title is pretty self-explantory.
Medievil MediEvil Action/Adventure 3D action platformer where you play as a skeleton, it's really good, the art style is nice too. Check out the sequel too, both are awesome games.
Megamanlegends Mega Man Legends Action/Adventure Both Legends and its sequel are truly underrated gems of the Playstation 1 era. In these games, you explore ruins, fight some pretty epic bosses, and obtain a plethora of different weapons in a 3D environment. Also on N64.
Mega Man Legends 2 ntsc-front Mega Man Legends 2 Action/Adventure Megaman Legends 2 is like its predecessor, but the game's world is not confined to a single island like in the first Legends title. I actually think Legends 2 is a slightly worse game due to having a couple underwater dungeons. On the other hand, the bosses (final boss in particular) are much more satisfying. There are also some cool new things to do, like a rageworthy 100-question quiz.
Megaman 8 ntsc-front Mega Man 8 Platformer The last classic Megaman title released until 2008's Megaman 9. All the stupid fun of the X series entries with none of the angst.
Mega Man X4 PSX Mega Man X4 Platformer The sequel to X3. Lets you play as Zero, who gets his own boss weapons in the form of techniques, but, unfortunately, does not get armor parts.
Megaman x5 Mega Man X5 Platformer The sequel to X4. The game features you racing against a simulated timer (1 stage attempt= 1 hour passed, regardless of how long you take) in order to prevent world destruction. Saving reploids in stages grants you various rewards.
Mmx6 box Mega Man X6 Platformer The sequel to X5. This picks about 3 weeks X5 where the earth is pretty much ruined. You get to unlock Zero later on. All Megaman X games are also on Megamen x collection for Gamecube.
Metal gear solid psx Metal Gear Solid Action/Adventure The dawn of mainstream stealth gaming and more cinematic experiences in games. Play as Solid Snake as he infiltrates Shadow Moses to stop high tech special forces unit FOXHOUND from carrying out a nuclear strike. Great plot, great voice acting, solid gameplay. WARNING: not for people who cannot abide long cutscenes. Updated on Gamecube with amazing graphics and better.. everything.
Monsterrancher2 Monster Rancher 2 RPG Monster Rancher 1 was really an innovative game. Insert CDs, obtain monsters, battle with other ones using the game's unique battle system. Monster Rancher 2 is more or less simply an improvement over that, but it was a notably big improvement. The game looks a lot better, there are tons more monsters, and tons more events as a whole. It is a shame that the series has somewhat gone downhill.
Mortal kombat 4-front Mortal Kombat 4 Fighting The sequel to MK3, now with 3D graphics.
Needforspeed Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit Racing Third installment of the series, where you get to pick either being a Cop and chasing down racers or running out for sport in illegal races, pretty fun and graphics almost on par to the PC counterpart.
Oddworld Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee Platformer One of the best 2D platformers ever, set on an alien planet, you play as Abe, a slave, and your only power is to take control of your enemies. You can also interact with other slaves to lead them to safety (or to their death) using pre set sentences like follow me and stop. Pretty hard game, but very well done and satisfying. Get ready to think. A lot. Also on PC.
Odd2 Oddworld 2: Abe's Exoddus Platformer Like the first one, but longer and with a lot of new stuff. Must have if you liked the first one. Also on PC.
Ogrebattle Ogre Battle Strategy

Sequel to the snes versions (or port?)

Made by Atlus, so you better get rid of that Razor and prepare for some neck groath.

Omegaboost Omega Boost Shooting Your a mecha, IN FUCKIN SPACE
Panzer bandit Panzer Bandit Action/Adventure/Beat 'em up Panzer means War, bandit means bandit. Great beat 'em up game, 3d backgrounds with nicely done 2d sprites, different characters to choose from and diverse special movements.
Parappa-the-rapper-cover-500x500 Parappa The Rapper Rhythm A rappin' game with a dog. What's not to love? Sequel(ish) is also good.
Parasite eve us-front Parasite Eve Survival Horror/RPG Remember when Square made relatively refreshing RPGs? Well Parasite Eve is one of them, a survival horror styled RPG about mitochondria raging in New York. Also has a sexy lead, Aya Brea.
Parasiteeve2 Parasite Eve 2 Survival Horror The sequel to Parasite Eve, now a bit more leaning on the survival horror part.
Persona2innocentsin Persona 2: Innocent Sin RPG Unreleased in the US by Atlus due to (potential) homolust, this game has a great story and character, and very little of the weeaboo waifu focus of the later Persona entries. Probably some of the most decent characters of the Persona series. Requires a translation patch to play.
Persona-2-playstation-ps1-cover-artwork Persona 2: Eternal Punishment RPG The sequel to P2: IS. Was released in the USA, despite the fact that the prequel was never released.
Policenauts Policenauts Adventure A Hideo Kojima title that never made it outside of Japan. While the PS1 version is insuperior to the Saturn one, it's the only one that was fantranslated [1] (extremely well too). It's fucking awesome.
Raiden Project ntsc-front Raiden Project Shmup Shmup... shooting and laughing.
Rayman Rayman Platformer Very nice 2D platformer, great art style. Port of the pc version.
Rayman 2 Rayman 2: The Great Escape Platformer One of the best 3D platformers of its era, with art that looks like a Pixar film. Also on N64 (with better graphics and framerate) pc (same as before) and Dreamcast (with even better graphics, solid 60fps and downloadable content!)
Resident-evil-1-ps1-box-art Resident Evil Survival Horror The game that made the survival horror genre popular. Kill zombies, solve puzzles and save ammo. Has a superior (and actually scary) remake on GC, recently re-released on the Wii with new control options. There are also numerous versions and ports; the Directors Cut, the Dualshock Edition, the Sega Saturn version, the PC version and the Nintendo DS version.
Residentevil2 Resident Evil 2 Survival Horror The sequel to RE. More of the same awesomeness as the first. Considered to be one of the strongest entries to the series. A must play if you've played or are going to play RE4, since Leon's origins are in this game. Hell, a must play in any case. Also on N64 (who said you can't fit two cds onto a cart!) dreamcast, pc and gamecube. scenes of the game aslo appear in the wii game, resident evil darkside chonicles
Resident evil 3 Resident Evil 3 : Nemesis Survival Horror A side story of RE2. Plays just like 2, but with new features such as dodging and 180 degree turning (later used in future RE games). Also features everybody's favorite mutant, Nemesis. S.T.A.R.S., motherfucker, S.T.A.R.S! You encounter Nemesis multiple times unexpectedly, making RE3 a true survival horror game. also on dreamcast, gamecube and pc. scenes of the game appear on wii game resident evil umbrella chonicles.
250px-Persona1 box Revelations: Persona RPG
Masaomark

The one on the right is in the American release. 'Nuff Said. An improved version exists on the PSP, but without the nigger upstanding youth of African descent.

Rhapsodypn9 Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure Strategy One of NIS' earlier entries. Features weird attacks, fighting puppets, and is rather easy, but good for beginners to strategy. Like the title says, it's a musical, so expect some (unintentionally?) hilarious singin' and dancin'. The DS remake has streamlined battles and Japanese songs.
Ridge Racer Type 4 Ridge Racer Type 4 Racing Great racing game by Namco. Also, Reiko Nagase.
Risingzan Rising Zan: The Samurai Gunman Action/Adventure Fight demonic ninjas, robots, and other weird Japanese-made shit in a Wild West setting as a cowboy-turned-weeaboo in this fun action game. KATANA FIGHTAN, GUNSLINGAN, and BLOWAN SHIT UP. Also, cowboy hostages in undies.
Rivalschools Rival Schools Fighting Capcom's take on 3D fighting, though it plays more like a 2D fighter with its focus on aerial combat and tag team fighting. That's a plus--the game is more flowing than, say Tekken. Special guests include Sakura of Street Fighter Alpha fame and Fred Willard as Batsu's craaaaazy stepdad. Okay, I made that last one up.
Romance6 Romance of the Three Kingdoms VI Strategy Romance of the Three Kingdoms 6 is a strategy game by Koei. You control a warlord. Your goal is to conquer China during the Three Kingdoms era. There is a lot of strategy at play here. You will have to manage diplomacy, warfare, personnel recruitment, and many other things in your bid for supremacy.
Saga frontier Saga Frontier RPG Guide one of seven people through seven different quests and countless worlds in a quest...well, to do a lot of things, really. Highly customizable characters and fast-pace battle system; suffers from high difficulty and the developers running out of time/money at the end.
Saiyuki Saiyuki Strategy Another take on the Journey to the West story (you know, like Dragonball). You (as the human priest/ess Sanzo) and your werecreature buddies travel west, kicking ass as you go. Has a look fairly similar to FFT, though it plays fairly differently. Very uneven learning curve.
Simg t og04451n9v8n Sentinel Returns Other If you understand what the fuck is going on, then all power to you. This thing is simple, yet incredibly fun, and there are over six hundred levels. You enter an alien landscape, and from the eyes of a stationary robot "host", you absorb trees [the local form of energy] and build a linear tower of boulders until you can see eye-to-eye with the titular Sentinel. This succeeds the Atari game "The Sentinel", and features a vast improvement in graphics. Perhaps the most outstanding point in this game is its incredible, thick-as-molasses atmosphere, to which the score, composed by none other than famed director John Carpenter, contributes in no small way. An excellent way to pass long hours when you're too jittery to read Lovecraft but you want something with the same vibe.
Silent hill frontcover large GEC5ncgudtvuEdy Silent Hill Survival Horror

One of the scariest games ever, even if the PSX graphics kinda sucks compared to today's standards, this game will scare you shitless. Must play for survival horror fans. The (direct) sequel to this game is Silent Hill 3 on the PS2 and PC, another incredibly scary game.

Remade and retooled on Wii and PS2.

Skullmonkeys Skullmonkeys Platformer Sequel to The Neverhood (PC), this platformer was entirely shot in claymation. Unforgettable music.
SoulBlade NTSC Front Soul Blade Fighting Prequel to Soul Calibur, although not many people know that. Not as good as the sequel but damn fine in a pinch.
Spidermanntsccdcoversccab7 Spiderman Action/Adventure Great Spidey game based on the comic-books. Also, Stan Lee's the narrator. How cool is that?
Spyro Spyro Platformer Go up against the evil Gnasty Gnorc. Awesome platformer by insomniac. Lots of stuff to collect.
Spyro2 na large Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! Platformer Better than the first. Tons of fun. Also featuers RAGE!, something /v/ loves.
Spyro 3 year of the dragon frontcover large gpDIUBdSZb92SqZ Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon Platformer Even better than the second. Awesome minigames and a cool bonus stage. Last good one, sequels appeared on all consoles and sucked.
Star ocean 2 Star Ocean: The Second Story RPG Sci-fi/fantasy RPG with an action-based, three dimensional battle system. Highly customizable skill system, massive item creation system, and so bad it's hilarious voice acti- CRAWD HAS ADVANCED FORWARD Also on the PSP in the form of Second Evolution.
Street fighter alpha 3 ntsc front Street Fighter Alpha 3 Fighting One of this editor's all time favorite fighting games. Great battle systems, as well as a varied roster make this another great entry in the Street Fighter resume. Also someone of your breeding could never defeat Karin Kanzuki.
Strider2rs0 Strider 2 Action/Adventure Take the concepts of the first Strider, make Hiryu all-around better, and make the level design cooler. That's Strider 2 in a nutshell, and damn is it good. No relation to those other Strider "sequels".
Suikoden-ps1-cover-front Suikoden RPG A generic RPG by today's standards but still fun. Play as the child of an imperial knight and eventually raise your own rebel army to take them down. As all Suikoden games, has 108 recruitable characters.
SuikodenII Suikoden 2 RPG The sequel to Suikoden. Play as a solider who ends up leading an entire army against his old allies. Criminally under-rated; is one of the best RPGs on the system. Is considered by most to be the best in the series.
Syphonfilter Syphon Filter Action/Adventure Metal Gear solid without the metal gear
Syphon-2 Syphon Filter 2 Action/Adventure same as the above.
TalesofEternia Tales of Destiny 2 RPG Also known as Tales of Eternia. You, as a guy who's pretty much only interested in eating, go save the world. Has a fast-paced real-time battle system, colorful characters, and a ton of secrets to find. Ported to PSP.
Phantasia Tales of Phantasia RPG Remake of the SNES (And later GBA port) classic. Probably the best version of the game with enhanced audio, graphics, and character sprites, as well as improvements on the battle controls. Only available in Japan, but translations exist (more common to find the game already prepatched)
Tekken3ntsccdcoversccfrbf8 Tekken 3 Fighting Well, it's Tekken 3. It made the series go from good to awesome.
Tenchu 2 - Birth of the Stealth Assassins -U--front Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth Assassins Action/Stealth Stealthy ninjas.
Legend-of-dragoon The Legend of Dragoon RPG Love-it-or-hate-it RPG with an interesting combo system.
Misadventures Of Tron Bonne custom The Misadventures of Tron Bonne Action/Adventure A spinoff of the Legends series, this is nevertheless another grand game. You control Tron Bonne and her Gustaff. Unlike in the other games, the missions range from typical action based affairs to crazy crate moving puzzles! You have dominion over 40 unique servbots, all with interesting personalities. There are several secrets in this game that allow you to unlock the potential of these assistants.
Threads-of-fate-ps1-cover-front Threads of Fate RPG Action JRPG with a guy that can transform into any monster he kills and a little magic girl. Decent platforming, some interesting bosses, the male character has a interesting story, and there are some decent puzzles in some of the dungeons.
Time Crisis Coverart Time Crisis Action SHOOT ALL THE CROOKS AND SHIT
Tombraper Tomb Raider 3 Action/Adventure Third and possibly the best. More of the same. Also on PC!
Tomba Tomba! Platformer Little-known Metroidvania-type game. You run around beating up pigs and doing tasks. Awesome!
Tomba2 Tomba! 2 Platformer See above, only now with polygons and hair-tearingly difficult minigames (MINECART). Both it and the prequel are horrifically difficult to find, so expect to shill out around 100 dollars for each. Unless you're a filthy pirate.
Tony2 Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 Sports One of the greatest extreme sports games, if not THE greatest, known for its easy to learn but hard to master gameplay and making a bunch of obese neckbeards try to take up skateboarding. also on n64 and dreamcast.
Tony3 Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 Sports See above. Warning: the PS2/XB/GC version is MUCH better, play this version if you love polygon men and pixels.
Twisted metal Twisted Metal Combat The original vehicular combat game. The second one is also pretty good, but avoid the third and fourth ones.
Umjammerlammyntscfrontpq6 Um Jammer Lammy Other Spiritual sequel to (i.e. exact same gameplay as) Parappa the Rapper. You play as Lammy the Lamb, rock guitarist extrordanaire for MilkCan, trying to make it to the gig you're late for. Tons of cameos and references to Parappa. Includes unlockable co-op, vs, and Parappa (you play as Parappa in a remix of each stage) modes. The original Guitar Hero (Dispite the original guitar Hero was amplitude).
Vagrantstory Vagrant Story RPG A short game, but one hell of a lot of fun and with a ton of customization. Inspired Fallout 3's body-part-aiming system. Actually, no it didn't. Great storyline and writing.
Valkyrie-profile-ps Valkyrie Profile RPG You play as a Valkyrie, collecting the souls of the fallen and honing them so that you can send them to Valhalla and fight for the Aesir. Interesting combat, and good 2D graphics. Sparse story.
Vanark Vanark Action/Rail Shooter Blatant Star Fox 64 ripoff, but it's a very good ripoff, entertaining and polished graphics, nicely done controls and camera, story is meh.
Vandal1 Vandal Hearts Strategy
Vandal2 Vandal Hearts 2 Strategy The sequel improves on the original in pretty much every way. Overall a high quality tactics-style game. Really hard to find for some reason.
Vigilante8uslus00510frosy7 Vigilante 8 Action/Adventure Imagine Twisted Metal, except IT'S THE FUCKING 70s. Hell yeah. Did I tell you there's also aliens in this game? Also on n64, dreamcast, pc and possibly xbox360 later this year.
Vigilante 8 - Second Offense Coverart Vigilante 8: Second Offense Action/Adventure Sequel to the above, more of the same awesomeness, ports also on same consoles.
Warhawk-thumb Warhawk Other
Wild9 Wild 9 Platformer An interesting platformer where you do not usually directly attack enemies, but instead have a Gravity Gun ("The Rig") which you can use to manipulate enemies and objects. Killing enemies is done by throwing them into their own traps, spike pits, lasers, grinders, etc. Very fun, very violent.
Wildarms Wild Arms RPG The planet Filgaia is under attack by demons. Are you a bad enough dude to save Filgaia? Incredible music and an interesting Wild West setting make up for the game's poor graphics. Had a PS2 remix, but opinions are mixed about it.
Wild Arms 2 ntsc Wild Arms 2 RPG A non-linear sequel to Wild Arms with a notably darker tone and the same excellent music. The translation is poor but serviceable.
Wip3out Wip3out Racing

Anti-gravity racing game with a neat soundtrack. Protip: get special edition with1 and 2's tracks (UK only).

Wipeout and Wipeout 2097 (or whaterver it was called, the 2nd one) are also on Sega Saturn. Wip3out is only on PSX.

Worms Worms Strategy

Ok port of the PC classic. PSX has all worms from the 1st to armageddon, all are pretty fine ports, though none have online features.

If you really wanna play worms, get Armageddon on PC. If you can't then the PSX version is ok, just not great.

Xenogears Xenogears RPG Your character doesn't like giant robots or fighting. You then proceed to get into a giant robot and fight people. Famous for its convoluted story and esoteric references (like psychology? Like Judeo-christian mysticism? This is the game for you) and equally infamous for its second disk (which basically becomes a visual novel), made after Square decided to devote all their time and resources to FFVIII. The game starts out really, REALLY fucking slow, but gets better the more you play it. WARNING: May make you paranoid about religion.
