This page's content is really, really outdated. Check out the stuff there and update if possible.

VIP quality

Like the NES, the SNES also has a number of romhacks to improve and/or modify a game's aspects or make an entirely new game on the game's engine, sometimes with new graphics and music. Some of these "new games" tend to be quite the challenge, so approach with caution. Everything else should explain what you're getting into just fine.

Final Fantasy IV Project II / Namingway Edition RPG A modification to FF2us that adds a new script and changes names to be more consistant with FF6. If you want a more authentic experience, you could use Namingway Edition which adds full spell names like Blizzard and original Hard Type maps. Project II

Final Fantasy VI / III Relocalization Project RPG A big bag of tweaks and fixes to a great classic. It squashes many annoying bugs, restores some previously censored bits, and rewrites the whole script to be more faithful to the original while keeping the charm of Woolsey's version. Mega Man X3 Fully Playable Zero / Zero Project V4.1 Platformer / Run and Gun This fucking rocks. For those who wanted to beat entire stages and bosses as Zero instead of just briefly using him like in the original. The best part is swapping to and from X and Zero non-stop after the intro stage (keep in mind they do not share lifebars or heart tanks), except in boss fights which lock you into your current character until death or victory. No longer an overpowered X, there's some stuff Zero can do that X can't, along with the buster shots being different. There's also some other tweaks to things which you might enjoy or not even notice. Check the readme file first! Link Thislooksshoppedbutitaint
Romancing SaGa 3 Romancing SaGa 3.12 RPG Romancing SaGa 3, but completely remade with new bosses, music, quests, and characters from all other SaGa games (So far there are a total of 80 or so quests and that's counting the original quests in Romancing SaGa 3 and new things are still being added to this day). It even features the Combination System from SaGa Frontier onward. Only in Japanese though, however there are videos online of segments you can follow if stuck. Link Romancing SaGa 312 screenshot
Secret Of Evermore Secret of Evermore Gameplay Balance RPG Secret Of Evermore is a good game, however it has issues; one being weapons do not have a shared level. This patch fixes most of the problems present in the original game, making it more enjoyable gameplay wise. Link Secret of Evermore Gameplay Balance Patch screenshot
Secret of Mana Secret of Mana - Relocalized Action RPG A relocalization project that attempts to fix the damages made by Squaresoft's North American team by using the remake's localized script and uncensoring everything. Requires FuSoYa’s VWF Edition hack to be applied on a headered rom and then unheadered afterwards. Link SoM-Relocalized
Super Mario World Super Demo World: The Legend Continues Platformer Well done rehaul of the original SMW. Link Super Demo World 1-1-
Super Mario World VIP and Wall Mix (series) Platformer Those silly VIPpers on 2ch decided Super Mario World wasn't hard or looney enough. So they made a series of romhacks until they were satisfied. Examples of stuff to expect: Stage Boss Go here and look for "Vip" Mario vip image
Super Metroid Super Metroid Project Base Levels + Control Freak Action / Adventure Do you love the GBA Metroid games for their controls and feel that the physics for Super are floaty as hell? This romhack was made tailored for those who prefer those games' controls instead using both Project Base and Control Freak as its base. Link SM-GBAStyle
Super Metroid Hyper Metroid Action / Adventure The best hack with the lamest title, based on Project Base and some other stuff (ever wanted to combine spazer and plasma legit? you can! it'd shred enemies if they didn't have a fuckton of health by the time you can!) Best played when you want a breath of fresh air and a map layout, as well as item order. Very open feel to it, and great level design. Link Hyper-metroid-header
Super Metroid Project Base 0.7.3 Action / Adventure Project Base is kinda hard to pigeonhole. It's an update to the graphics (new tiles and palettes) and physics (enhanced regular physics and some cool new additions) of Super, and has some minor adjustments and additions to the level design. Now comes with several on/off flavor switching for people who like to customize and tweak. A speedrunner's wet dream and a great way to re-experience an SNES classic. Has its own speedrunning leaderboard! Link Pb12
Super Metroid Super Metroid Redesign Action / Adventure A total overhaul of Super Metroid. "The Planet Zebes, now bigger than we've previously seen it, is filled with many mysteries. Sleeping within the depths of the planet is a secret heavily protected by the last standing symbols of the great Chozo race..." PROTIP: If you like this, you'll definitely enjoy the library to be found at Metroid Construction. D-D-DOUBLE OFFER: An update by Drewseph under the name of Super Metroid Redesign: Axeil updates the level design based on a certain speedrunner's game design criticisms. Get SMRA here!

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past A Link to the Past Redux Action RPG Wuzzat? You thought A Link to the Past is perfect enough as it is? Well this hack actually enhances this game to give it a "Quality of Life" feel to it. Based on Conn & qwertymodo’s A Link to the Past DX hack, this hack includes bugfixes, tweaked gameplay, the ability to utilize MSU-1's sound capabilities, unfucks most of the changes by NoA, and using the L and R buttons to switch items without having to pause the game! Link ALttPR
Zombies Ate My Neighbors! Oh No! More Zombies Ate My Neighbors! Horror / Run and Gun You like Zombies Ate My Neighbors and want more? Play Ghoul Patrol. Still want more? This is exactly that, and quite good too! Almost 10 years in the making, a complete hack/unofficial sequel including 55 all new levels, new gameplay options, items, enemies and more!
